How about......$1200 for a new one = $600 for a really good second hand one and $400 for your average second hand one. Engels have a good support network I'm told ....can always get parts and service....it has to run
well, not look pretty.....could be a great buy at a realistic price....give it a good
test run, in the sun, with no insulation. If you bought one of those insulating covers, it might even look good !.......dp

Hi Darian,
I think $600 for a good 2nd hand Engel is pretty optimistic. If you hear of one for that price, let me know. I reckon I could easily resell it and make $200-$300 profit on it. However, $600 might be OK for an average unit, particularly if its one of the older yellow types.
Seriously, about 10 years ago we bought a 15L Engel in average condition for $250 which was a bargain. Sold it several years later for $450. Purchased a 2nd hand 39L Engel in good condition 4 years ago for $800. It was about 2 years old at time of purchase.
Haven't seen one as good for that price since and we've been looking on behalf of family for about 12 months now.

Bruce
I think any more than $600 for a 10 year old Engel would be too much.
Newer Engels are more power efficient. Or get a Waeco.
I paid $1100 for my 39L Engel 3 years ago. One of the bst camping 4WDing investments I'v made.
We spent over $80 on ice in one 8 day trip to
Innamincka.

Doh!
So thats the trick.
Gee, you guys are clever.
LOL :-))))
Actually 5 bags of ice per day (at $2 a bag) doesnt go far with 3 eskies...........
See Bruce, you have 2 options:
1 give up beer
2 buy a car fridge.
Option 1 is just too scary so go for option 2. ;-))

hello truckster. how did your Xmas go. did you end up doing anything. I am one of the lucky ones when it comes to buying a second hand engel. we bought a 39L, 12 months old fridge for $600, but it was from a friend who did not need it anymore. He also had a 12v bilge pump which I said to him, "you are going to throw that in for nothing aren't you" and he did. We use this for our shower. Our restoration/Xmas break trip of our adopted hut went very
well. We got the NRE in to do some blackberry
clearing and they could not get over what we had done. (Its not what you know but who you know) Not sure when we will be back at
the hut (Collins hut) to continue the work. Hope you have success with your fridge purchase Liz
