I have an ICOM ic400pro, this is an excellent unit, commercial quality, with a heap of features. I have had it for 2 years and it has been without fault.

Gday Greengog,
Ive got the TX4400, works
well, large clear numbers, plenty of useless stuff on it like the listen only channels. It is din size which was her main criteria, a nice neat fit.

I went into a
well known
Adelaide radio
shop when looking for my radio. Possibly the same one? Bought my TX4300 from presitige communication online with antenna and coax cheaper than just the radio from the local store.

I've got the 4400. Bought it when they were first released so it is about 4-5 years old.
No problems with it. Don't use most of the features and have turned most of the buttons off. It is a nice fit in my spare DIN slot though. Good sound quality.

It was neck and neck for me between the GME 4400 (g'day Dean :-) and the Icom 400 Pro - the latter won for
mine, due to the repeater "sniffer" - it scans for repeaters - far as I see it, that means I don't need to refer to a list again - I just sniff when I need one. Whatever - both very good products, and if you intend to use UHF for quite some years, buy quality - you'll be glad. Prestige Com have very good prices but won't mix and match kits - anyway, I got the antenna I wanted in my deal from the local SA supplier for damn near the same price all up anyway.

Just had a quick squiz at prestigecom.com.au - The Icom 400 pro is $399 free deliv with 2 yr warranty - look in the value bundles under UHF - there are some keenly priced complete kits in there - all up under $450 - as mentioned - I wanted a diff antenna so had to buy locally to get the setup I wanted. The 4400 is offered in a bundle too I think.

Any major issues with GME that you'd care to share? Or is just a 'been there done that' sort of thing.

Suspect they are all pretty good radios.
I've got the GME 4400. Liked the large read out, the inbuilt speaker and the user programmable extra channels (although I haven't set them up yet).

Hi Greendog,
Lots of good advice in these posts. You will notice that nobody recommended the GPS105 CTCSS
UHF Radio. I personally would stay away from these combination units and stick with any one of the Electrophone units and you won't go wrong.
I have the TX 6000 which is a handheld unit but I have it mounted on the console with a hand mike and car kit. I purchased this model because we have other uses for having the handheld capability.
I like the suggestion above about purchasing a unit with the correct DIN size for a neat fitment into the dash board as not only does it make fitting easier but helps keep the radio out of the sun too.
Good luck with your choice.
Brett

I bought a TX4200 second hand on e-bay and it works perfect. I printed a user manual of the GME website and still learning. It cost me $250 and I can't see a big difference between the 4200 and the new models. I would spend more money on a good aerial.
Happy Travels

You could try this site.
UHF
I'm not sure what the postage costs are but would be worth an email.
They are the best price I have found so far.

I have owned both the Icom and 4400 radios. They are both very good radios, but if a large screen and easy to use knobs is what you want go for the 4400.If you want a tough little radio for a 4by that you give a hard time in the bush then I would buy an Icom.
