Hello all, I had the need to use my Jackall 8000 recently. Everything went fine until I needed to lower the vehicle and guess what, she wouldn't come down! I moved the lowering lever to the correct position and operated the handle (numerous times) but all that achieved was to lift the vehicle a little and then lower it back down to the original position. Eventually I had to push the vehicle side-ways so that it actually fell off the jack. This is a recovery method that I'm familiar with however, not one I wanted to use at the time. Can anyone help with a suggestion as to why this is occurring (I've tested it several times since and had the same result on each occasion). Do the springs fitted to these jacks lose their tension and prevent propper operation. I can usually work this type of problem out but this one has me stumped. Thanks in advance
Regards
Chris

Check that the pins aren't slightly bent and/or the jack is dirty/rusty as they can bind, try a bit of lube on all the sliding surfaces and it will usually work ok

Like "Peter 2" said, bit of lube.
WD40 works well on my genuine HiLift.

The HiLift will do exactly the same thing if I've neglected it. Clean and lube and the problem should disappear.

Geoff.

There must be a load of at least 150 lbs. on the jack in order to lower it "step by step"

first step in using a highlift is to smother it with crc - let me guess you have it hanging out the back of your 4by with no protection- uh uh I have an unlimited suppy of green bags which i use to cover the mechanism and cable ties

If you have nothing else, a cup of water over the working parts can help too.

Hi Obone,

There is a round pin approx 50mm long 3mm in dia that causes the "teeth" to slide in or out. On my hilift, this pin gets a slight bend and stops the teeth from disengaging/sliding out. Check and make sure this pin is straight otherwise it won't operate properly. Plus a good spray with CRC also certainly helps!

Cheers

This method is a bit rude, bur works..At the point, where you have taken the load off the offending pin that won't pop out, holding the "loaded"handle with one hand, tap the jack post,in the area just below the "action block" with a good sized shifter (slang,of course, for adjustable wrench) or wheel nut brace/spanner..I have two of another brand and one Jackallâ„¢ that often need a little help..Safety! Always listen for and observe that the pin is fully either in or out of the "post"..Always,I repeat, always, leave the loaded jack with the handle clipped in the fully up (vertical) position..I have a gorey color pict of the right side of my "kisser" just to confirm that,in a moment of irrelevant idle chatter,I forgot.."No pain,no gain"..Take note of the previous post re using lite lube, not oil to assist smooth operation..If you did find the spring has gotten "tired",knock out the "roll"pin and give the spring a little chiropractic treatment..Stretch it a little..Your brand of jack is one of,if not the best...Have fun..RockyOne

Chris I have the exact problem with my Black Rat Hi Lift. I have cleaned it and sprayed it with all sorts of magic potions and it still won't come down - requiring me to bang the mechanism with a hammer each action to get it down. This is obviously not good for the thing either especially after my patience has worn VERY thin by the 4th lift and the tap has turned into a rather feirce knock!!! I might have to try looking for the bent pins as someone else has mentioned.

Thanks everyone for your replies. The jack is always lubricated and never exposed to the weather (it 's stored inside the vehicle) Thanks to your suggestions I have found that the lower one of the 2 engaging pins has a very slight bend in it and this may be preventing propper operation. I will try to contact Jackall and buy a replacement
Thanks again
