Hello Everyone
Does any one know where in NSW can you get the compressor unit for a 60 litre engel frige.Ours got a hole when something was poked into it and the gas was release. We were told the hole can't be repaired, we have to replace all of the inside part.

I think that there is a list of repairers (who I guess would be able to get you a compressor) on the Engel website and there are a lot of links on this site at the moment to engel. I see that Anaconda in Melbourne have specials on Engel fridges at the moment.

I think that you have to use some sort of vacuum pump to get all the air and moisture out of the lines before you regas them.

you punctured the evaporator?
doubt if you could put a hole in the compressor or condenser unless you were using a drill or a nail and hammer......the evaporator is only alloy and is easilly punctured

i have heard people er tradespersons who have said they can repair ie weld the evaporator in the field...but never have I seen one that has been repaired....not saying it cant be done...just that ive never seen one\

seen plenty of evaporators that have had an attempt at repair......all with bigger holes than what they had...the alloy is only 15 or so thou thick....as soon as you put a flame on it...well its like ice melts quickly, leaving bigger holes ...get the picture?...another so called repair was to epoxy the hole....never had long term success at this either...most mechanics will attempt this once or twice in their lives and then give it a miss as it simply does not last.

A replacement evaporator should be available as spare part, and these come with copper tails ( welded or what ever they do in the fabrication process) so one can connect into the existing refrigeration system tubing

condensrs are usually steel and can be silver soldered using blue tip 45% silver

Keep in mind that the same person who tells you that it "can't be repaired" MAY have it running the next day if it was their own fridge ! I don't necessarily condemn your particular contact, but try and tap into other advice as back-up - the indicated labour and parts for a new fitout would virtually mean a new fridge. Sites like this contain hoards of reports the same as yours - people have saved heaps of $ by researching further.
