Now that we are moving to Kununurra,we dont want to lug our computer up there and are thinking of buying a laptop and useing our mobile phone (if we stay in our camper,no house)but--how much does it cost to use your mobile to hook up and use the internet?? My guess is that it would be quite expensive.

In Kununurra they have a groovy Telecentre where you can take your laptop and use the internet either with a wireless or network cable connection.

ecentres</a/

We had used our Mobile phone but it ended up being hopeless trying to download big emails and it was slow as a wet week in Brisbane (Never wet that long in Melbourne!) I think the cost was the same as my normal call rates.

It was quite cheap to use - only a few dollars for half an hour.

I tried using my laptop connected via my mobile phone. I was not a great success as downloading e-mails was very slow and expecive.
You are better going to the public libries or internet cafes.

Hi Nick,

Another system is the "Maxon Mini Max" which works via a USB port on your laptop providing the CDMA network is available. It's available through Telstra, check the Telstra Mobility site. The cost is $49 for 20 hours per month.

Probably the best bet at the moment with whats available Nick, at least you get ADSL speed in any of the so called hot area's which is actually most CDMA coverage area's.

Company I worked for we setup for managers and reps to have dialup with laptops and mobile phones.

Yes it can be done, has been done for years, 1997 is when we did it.
Is it viable? Well that depends on if people send you photos and you send them to other people. If they do, it can become expensive - VERY... ALso depends onwhat you like to do on your computer while online.

Lug your computer up there, ti isnt that big and can be used for other things too.

Using GPRS on Vodafone, the price is around $50 for 300MB per month, cheaper for less data, more expensive for more with unlimited around $100 per month. Use a cable connection between phone and laptop, don't be smart and try BLuetooth cause it does not always work.

Biggest hassle you will have is getting Vodafone reception. Speed is around the same as dialup on a normal to good phone line.

Vodafone have also just increased their data rates dramatically (b****r) but you can change rates at any time so you are NOT locked in to any contract for data. The actual Data Bundle rates are hard to find on their web site but they are there.
