I have this old West German Army Sleepingbag, and it is getting a bit long in the tooth. The bag is like a huge waterproof coat, with arms, and a zip-off leg section, and a ventilated chest area.
It is a great bag, but the waterproofing is not really there anymore, and it is not real warm.
Does anyone know if there is somewhere I could take it to to get down or feathers pumped into it, and the waterproofing re done?
It is a great bag otherwise, and I would not be without it.
Cheers,
Chump

You can buy waterproofing sprays at Big W, Kmart etc.. they should work.
As for the down pumped in, look for one of them
places that advertises they re-do Doonas... Theres one that does free pickup and delivery. they MAY do it

It is kind of a vinyl material, the
water-proof stuff, and it is crumbling away (the bag is at lest 50 years old...). I dunno if the spray-on would be enough.
Hadn't thought about the doona
places. Good idea.

If I could buy a new one, I would in an instant. I think they stopped making them sometime in the 60's.
Besides, I should be able to get at least 75 years out of a sleeping bag. I mean, for $40, I want my second-hand stuff to last!
lol....It is probably getting to that time, but it is still a good bag....
Cheers,
Chump

You can find down cleaning
services in most major cities. They can recondition the existing down and top the bag up.
I've done this with my bag, a couple of times over the years. It brings the bag up like new.
Here's a link that might help.

Yeah. That was me... Three vehicles and five sidewall stakings in 30 km. The last section of track to Ularing Rock was a beast. On top of the flats, the track was almost invisible from disuse and we could only find it using moving map in Ozi.
The trip killed a few fantasies about crossing the continent "off track".
We camped a few k's SW of Yowie rock at a place called
Curara Soak, which was tranquil and quiet.

Cross country and overgrown track/burnout work is strictly crossply territory you would be amazed at the difference. Did you see a tree near currara soak with auminim foil on it? that marks a track that leads to a ridge and
lookout from some of the highest points on the kalgoorlie 25o0 thou

I would have to agree, but the advantage isn't great.
The vehicle that was wearing cross-plys copped two stakings. The first was amazingly small (about the size of a toothpick. Easy fixed) and the second was about two inches in diameter, destroying the tyre.
I don't recall the foil tree, but it was a while ago. I'll keep it in mind for next time. Thanks for the heads up, Davoe.
