Friend just been to Alice and around near
the Rock. He was told at
the Rock that access to
Chambers Pillar is now only possible via an Escorted Tour
I was there 3 years ago and will one day return hopefully to
camp at the
Camp Site near bye and take in the sollitude of this beautifull place once more. Can anyone who has been there lately tell me about accessing the track in through the station area. Thanks

Trevor,
Access to
Chambers Pillar is still open to individuals through Maryvale Station on the Old Ghan Line track.
I hope this answers your query.
Geoff.

About 8 days ago I was returning to Alice along the Stuart highway and pulled into the access road to
Chambers Pillar to have a sleep. There is a
gate at the beginning of the turnoff. It was closed, as you would expect, but nothing to indicate that access was now banned through here. Can't say I have seen anything in
Alice Springs news saying access has been closed for individuals??

You might be confused. There is a track that goes along the north east corner of
rainbow valley to the rail line then south beside the line to idracowa
station boundary. The track then turns east then south to join up with the track from maryvale station. They might be refering to this track as it can only be accessed by a tour operator who operates there regularly.

We went there in early October.
We left Alice, then down to
Rainbow valley, we turned off the Stuart HW and went along the Hugh River Stock Route. We then accessed
Chambers Pillar via Maryvale Station.
Hope this helps.

I was there in eary September, ALice down the old Gahn, Via Maryvalle Station, Finke, Lamberts Centre & Kalgura. There is a
sign that says
no access beyond Chambers piller, so that is what he may be refering to. You have to go back to maryvalle Stn 40 km return.
There is also an acces ladder/walkway to the base now which in my opinion destroies the pic's at sunset.

Rox,
You are correct, there is
no access beyond
Chambers Pillar, but the access to the Pillar is still open to one and all from Maryvale Station.
