I have a GME TX3400 with 4018K1 antenna (spring base, elevated feed, 4.5db ground independent whip) on my Pajero, but the antenna is about 10cm too long to fit in most underground car parks. Not much need for it around town anyway, but I would like to stick a stubby unity gain antenna on so scraping it is not an issue, and also so if someone nicks it there's no real loss. That way I can keep the 4.5db under the
seat for weekends, out of harms way.
Can I buy any old ground independent unity gain whip and screw it onto the elevated feed?

I have the 409L mounted on the bullbar. In 6db configuration it's the same height as the roof of the Paj, so if it touches, I stop! Good height gauge....
Don't know for sure about the elevated feed jobbie but can't see that it would be a problem. I'm sure someone will tell me if I'm wrong :-)
Cheers.............

Got the same thing bullbar mounted. Didn't think it sat that much higher than the roof, will have a look tonight.
But anyway, screw off the top and stick a 1/4 wave dipole, short rubber jobbie. About $10-$15, any radio
shop. Works fine for me for kms. I normally keep it on for damage/theft reasons.

Thanks -
mine is mounted on the driver's guard (no bullbar), so it sits a bit higher. Any
carpark that has 2.1m or less clearance, it's guaranteed to scrape.

GME's AE4002 looks to be the one to get - will have a hunt around
Melbourne for one.
