Bluevoda eh.. never seen it.

anyway Id get rid of the space below the camels images, and also would change the links colours to something not blue, clashes with the babychit brown background. (alink=C0C0C0) http://html-color-codes.com/ for some other options..

also keep the KB of your images as small as possible for faster loading.

One comment, Rob.
Don't reduce the images down so far. Yes I know you want to keep them small for faster loading but you shouldn't go so small that the quality suffers. I think you have the jpeg settings too low and the pictures are pixelating.

Otherwise, looking good.

Cheers.....

When you save a picture as a jpeg yopu have the option to set file size (quality). Set this at maximum quality so the jpeg compression won't reduce the quality.
Exactly how you go about it depends on the program you're using. Generally you want to save the image as a 72DPI, 500 x 400 pixels. This should give you a file size less than 50k.

Cheers....

Rob,

most guest books will be using some sort of database.

Which one you use, and how you save the data will depend on which one of the programming languages used to save and retreive the data (from one of the many databases).

Perhaps some idea of what you are currrently unsing (and feel comfortable to use) migh assist more.

Not a bad effort Rob. Re: guestbooks if you do a google search there are heaps of them. Downside is that most bring advertisements with them. I ended up writing my own but it only works with ISP's that support .asp. Recently registered a domain name and found a very cheap web host but unfortunately they don't support .asp so now I'm back to square one. I'd be interested to know if you manage to find some advertisement free script.

Well, G'day Rob. Great to see you're having a go at website building. Learning to code html without a teacher is very frustating and very time consuming.

I've had a quick look at your site and your code. I offer some uncomplimentry yet constructive comments.

A guest book is way too complex for where you are at and where your site is at. Forget it. It would do you no good anyway if you had one.

As for updating your tours, I suggest you look around for someone who can set it up for you and give you a bit of one to one tuitition, preferably at your place. An HSC student who has done some computer studies may be glad of a few dollars or a ride in your 4x4 and the opportunity to use their knolledge.

You have some glaring errors early in your code. The rest may be OK, I didn't study it all.

1) Your title is the third meta tag where it should be the first.

2) You have some code between theand. Shouldn't be anything in there.

3) Your stylesheet looks strange.

The first thing on your page as seen by a human and also as seen by the robot should be a repeat of your title (from the head section). I forget whether you have this right.

The second thing seen should be a repeat of your discription (from the head section).

Both of these should be keyword rich as should be your copy.

I use EzyHyml to write my code. Its a free download.

I've learned enough to get by from a few tutorials which I frequently refere to.

There's also a forum that I've joined where people have been most helpful.

Please let me know if you'd like the URLs and I'll post them.

However, I do sugest that you consider whether your time would be better spent making money from your 4x4 business and spending a small amount of that money on a competant web designer. Otherwise you'll have no time for 4x4ing and will go under.

You may wish to have a look at my site at Wilderness Landscape Photography

If nothing else, it will give you an idea what a self taught webdesigner can achieve. Bear in mind that I've been five years getting there and over the last year or more have spent 30 to 40 hours a week in front of the computer.

Regards and best wishes,
Laurie.

Hi Laurie, thanks for the constructive advice, I take on board what you have said. At this stage I am just foolin around of an evening instead of watchin TV between trips. But it is kind of adictive once you get going with it. It is certainly not interfering with my work and I could never spend the amount of time that you have. I realise it is a little ameteurish? at this stage but then lots of 4wd tour people aren't really into froth and bubble and probably appreciate someone just haven' a go. I like your web site and your interesting pix Laurie. Cheers Rob
