Just a quick one.

We're going away this weekend to Barrington Tops, and were wondering what sort of wildlife might we find in the creeks with a bit of exploring? I am thinking yabbies, turtles, maby trout, mabey a platypus, but am I on the right track here? Is there anything else I could find? Are the leeches bad here?

Just want to show the kids a few things, and wondering what to expect, so I can pack accordingly.

Cheers

Hi Chump_Boy,
My experience leeches are not a problem..but I suppose depends on where you go,I would be very carefull with kids incase of venomous bites...spiders,snakes etc.The Chitchester river supports waterdragons and Ive seen 5' goannas aswell if you come face to face with one stay still they generally check you out work out your not a threat and walk around you, scary thought these thing are big..I think at ten in the mourning if you hear a siren dont pannick its just the chitchester dam check
,..all OK.. anyway have a good weekend up I always do.

Cheers.

I've run into those goannas before - mainly round hill end. My wife freaks out each and every time...lol. Still, they are pretty spectacular.

I don't expect to be taking the kids too far into the bush, but you have reminded me to double check the first aid kit for compression bandages, just in case....

Hi JD
I noticed on your profile you have the OME 2" lift.
I'm in the process of upgrading my suspension and was recommended the OME kit. How have you found it so far?

Hi 3.0turbob,
It has handled everything i've thrown at it,but I don't bounce it through the bush, only sraped the side step once at Menai but it was quite rocky..I'm going to make up some sliders just incase to protect the lower sills prevention better than cure in my books..I would have to say ..yes i'm happy with it.

Hello - no idea if this will help you...but worth a try

FaunaNet

Doesnt provide a complete list on the beasties that are present in an area just those that have been caught and "stuffed" by the Museum.

you'll see turtles, platypus if you're lucky, yabbies but only trout up on the tops - not down at Chichester. Try Dilgry or Polblue areas.
