Hi Everyone
I am in the throes of planning a trip which is intended to start at the headwaters of the
Murray River and finish at Alexandrina (?) in SA. I would welcome any input regarding 'must sees' and 'must drives' along this route. Due to a back injury I couldn't attempt the
Border Track earlier this year so I intend including this drive in the trip. So come on everyone - give me some hints about all those favourite
places of your's along the NSW/VIC border and on into SA.
Thanks in advance
Pete

Nudie - I've done the 'bidgee in a 16ft canoe and I don't wish to put my butt and back through that again.

I read a great book some years ago by John Hindle & ?. They rafted down the Murray in, I think, 2 x 6 month trips, drinking copious amounts of red wine and discussing the meaning of life.
Wish I could remember the name of the book.
Ah, the wonders of getting older.

Gedday,
Spend a bit of time at Picnic Point, near Mathoura NSW, plenty of Red Gum forests to explore. supposed to be good fishing. It was when I lived near there anyhow.
Echuca and surrounds is very historic with the Paddle Steamers and lots of associated industry

Hi Pete,
Buy the "River Tracks" book. It has heaps of info on the Upper and Lower regions of the Murray. I believe the book can be purchased from here, but if not, it can be bought at any good map
shop.
Cheers
Glenn

When you get up to the Hattah there is a good circut drive you can do, start and finish on the river.
Nip across to the
Pink Lakes and surounds.
The headwarters of the Murray start up near
Cowombat Flat a 16k walk from the
carpark.

There are some great beaches (sandbars) that you can access from the river track in the hattah kulkyne NP. Great
camping.

One of the many projects I have for the near/distant future - kayaking/
camping the Murray.
River Tracks is a really excellent book covering the Murray, Darling, Murrumbidgee, Cooper and a couple of others (getting late, memory closing down - again) useful/meaningful info by people who've obviously travelled the rivers as opposed to reading other travel books and brought their own out.
Well worth the money.
