Hiya,
Looking for suggestions (there wasn't much when I googled) for where to hire a boat for the day. Mum loves fishing, small stuff only, so I want to take her out on a boat for a day around the Peel Inlet.
Now I know sfa about boats, and I haven't even been in one for many years.
There would be 4 of us. What size should I look for? About how much is it likely to cost me? Any suggestions who to call? Any tips where to go?
Cheers ppl.

I know of a couple of options:
Mandurah Boat Hire - they have those pontoon type boats and operate from the jetty up past the Reading Cinema's (just across from the Peninsular Hotel). Ph: 9535 5877
Blue Manna Boat Hire - Not 100% sure where these guys operate from. Local guide says Ormsby Terrace but I had a feeling they're operating from a boat shed at Dolphin Pool (basically in front of the No. 1 car
park at Dolphin Quays Marina precinct). Pretty sure these guys have aluminium runabouts and tinnies which would easily accomodate the 4 of you. Ph: 9535 5399
Not sure on the costs involved. Main thing to be aware of in the inlet is to keep your speed down and stay in the channels for the most part. Most of the estuary is pretty shallow so its easy to run aground. Not a big problem if your just pottering along slowly but I've seen a few cowboys get into problems by hitting a sandbar at speed. AFAIK your not allowed to take the hire boats out of the estuary.

Cheers for that Melissa.
I checked out Blue Manna online, they want $280 for an uncovered tinny for a day. I found a houseboat company offering a 6 berth houseboat for $440 for 2 nights midweek which would probably fit the bill (more than I want but better value than BM), but I thought there must be somewhere to hire a tinny for a day for a lot less than $280. I'll give Mandurah Boat Hire a call in the morning.

No worries! $280 a day for a tinny seems excessive. We inquired with them a while back and I'm sure it wasn't anywhere near that much. Might be worth a phone call to double check. Houseboats are a great option. We've been wanting to hire one for years. They also operate out of the Dolphin Quays marina precinct. I walk past them at least a couple of times a week and everytime I think we must do it...Have fun.
