I know this one has been done to death but Repco have a 800w 2 stroke at $169/ a 950w 4stroke at $299/ and a 2000w 4 stroke at $599 savings supposedly $30/100/150. dBA60/63/65. I'm torn between Bunnings $89 cheapie or the above 4 stroke at $299. Promise I won't run it after dark. Any thoughts/advice???????

I have a 950w 2stroke Scorpion ,now 2yrs old ,ducks guts and only 53db ,runs 12+ hrs on 1 tank / 4.5lt. price was somewhere round $200/220. only modification I have done is ditch the original crap plug for a NKG , made heaps of difference.

I put some pics on my web site of the different wave shapes from a couple of gennies. I have both a four stroke and a two stroke, The four runs longer on the same amount of fuel and similar loads.

www.bycompass.com

Go to the "of interest" page and find the gennie stuff.

I can't find anything wrong with the bunnings unit. The repco one is probably the same thing anyway, same mother different father.

"Diesel" is the brand. It's the same as all the other 2 stroke cheapies.

Cheers,

Jim.

Yes you are right Jimbo Diesel is the brand
I bought one 6+ months ago from my local true value hardware here on the paninsular
cant fault it ,cant justify buying a yamaha or honda so bought this one for 99 dollars works well not as quiet as the name brands but not alot lounder than them anyway
when i'm not a poor chef anymore might even go solar lol but till then with the times i go bush the 99 dollar one will do
just waiting to here that someone has put diesel in it by mistake hahahahh it will happen
hope to catch up on a joint gathering again.
we havent had one since MS in march

For a start I would buy the Bunnings unit for the 2 year warranty. Secondly if you look closely they are all pretty much the same, because they all come out of the Yamaha Factory in China. If you don't believe me go to a Yamaha Outboard Dealer & look at the 2 stroke gennies & more importantly the large price that they want for them. You could buy at least 3 of the Bunnings 850 watt ones for the same price & probably with more warranty.

My understanding of the brand mentioned up top,is that the first models out had a plastic pawl in the ratchet for the starter rope. The firm I know of had every one it sold come back for that reason..The rope just "free-wheeled" after a few pulls..Unlike the long gone pre-historic models that you could wrap a hunk of rope around the pulley (which had a rope location slot) and pull start it.If they have gone to ever so costly expence of substituting metal for the pawl,no doubt, these gen sets would appear to offer good value as long as camping neighbourhood realionships are costed into the overall package..The name brand units Honda™,Yamaha™ etc are ever so quiet and reliable with top re-sale value also.Noisy gen sets and harmony on the trail when camping, don't always go hand in hand :-)RockyOne!MPG:6!

yeah, I got that in yesterday's junk mail. Thing is, I bought the Bunnings 850w cheapie the other day for $98. Not out of the box yet so I could take it back - but just wondering about size etc.
