After reading pg 17 of the link on Trucksters post below;
"The rolling diameter of any tyre fitted to a passenger car or passenger car derivative must not be more than 15mm larger or 26mm smaller than that of any tyre designated by the vehicle manufacturer for that model"
My Patrol mentions 245/85R16 in the vehicle handbook, therefore as was stated on the patrol forum 285/75's are legal and it is the list of tyre specs for that model and NOT the tyre placard that is the deciding factor

Warthog,

read the next sentence, and you'll find the allowance is 50mm for 4wd tyres, not 15mm. They have different specs for cars and 4wds.

You can tell I was happy to read 33's are ok, that was as far as I read. Can fit 35's according to that, not that I can afford them, or the diff centres they would require.

This is only a proposed draft for discussion. It has yet to be accepted by any of the statutory bodies. Don't go assuming you can do all this stuff now. IF it is approved and IF it is adopted by the different states and the insurers, THEN you will be able to do it. Many of the allowed mods will still need engineers certificates too.
