Hi All,
I am after some diagnostic advice please. Jackaroo 1999 Petrol Manual with 104000
kms clocked. Occasionally when moving off from stationary there is a clunk and 1st gear pops back into neutral. Not predictable, but I wonder what is going on ??
Thanks for any feedback.

Hi Paul, My 98 Jack does this occaisionally as well . What I found is that it is not definate when it goes into 1st gear(no feel as it goes through the gate) and it only jumps out when not pushed all the way forward. I personaly am not worried about it now as I am aware, I ensure that I put it in properly and it doesn't jump out.

Cheers Dave L.

Hmmmm ........ my 99 TD hasn't done that at all yet - the above comment makes sense to me .....also might pay to get advice on a different grade of oil too - oils can be more significant than we'd believe on some of these issues. I use a Castrol Syntrans grade in mine - pricy, but long lasting and high quality I'm told - has run very well in all sorts of conditions to date.

Had an 89 TD Jack that use to jump out of 2nd from time to time, mainly under load. Mechanic said it was the (Selectors I think from Memory) only way to fix was to pull out the box. Not a major job but fairly labour intensive. His other suggestion was live with it. Use first for downhill work! Did that for 70,000km no prob's.

i'd change the fluid first and see how it goes, jack manual boxes are usually very strong with minimal dramas, especially behind the petrol.

As stated, castrol syntrans is the best fluid for these without a doubt, but it is worth the price.

Mine ocassionally hangs up a bit going into first or reverse, but its not a problem.
