Smitty
Hi all,
I've just gone ahead and purchase myself a new
Kimberley Kamper - Platinum model. Although it's all a bit late now - I was wondering if anyone had any bad things to say about them?
The wife and I intend to head around OZ next year and this trailer seemed to suite our needs the best. It will be towed with a 105 series Cruiser - Diesel with aftermarket turbo. The
suspension is already set-up up for a CT with Heavy duty King springs, Poly-airs and Koni Shocks.
Any thoughts or advice on these campers would be truly appreciated.
Cheers
SMITTY

Hi Smitty,
Good choice of camper but beware of a few small things,
The Autofridge uses a heap of power when first turned on to chill down the plates so if possible try to turn it on a day before you leave and leave the camper on mains power charging thru the supplied charger. I fell for the ..Ive got heaps of battery storage capacity but only managed to last about 3 days in a very moderate climate. If you do chill the fridge before you leave I have found I can sit without additional supply ( solar or genset for about 6days in around 25C.
Did you get the electronics brakes?..They really are fantastic and worth every cent.
My left hand spring sagged very quickly, its only a small warranty issue but worth watching
Just remember to be a bit careful when packing the gullwing box, dont get too carried away as the weight can quickly build up. Even with moderate care my draw bar weight is around 160KG when the
water tank is full.
Cheers,
Peter

Congratulations Smitty, you won't be sorry. We had one a couple of years ago and were more than happy with it. We lived in it for 4 months and took it to some amazing
places like The Bungles, Gibb RR,
Chambers Pillar, etc. It was easy to tow and erect, was as dust proof as any trailer I've ever seen and comfortable. Only sold it because we're getting soft (as old farts do) and got a Coromal Silhouette, as we don't got to as many severe tracks now.
Enjoy your new toy.
Happy
trails, Mike.

Nothing generally wrong with the KK's. I know a few people with them.
I HAVE heard a few complaints about aftersales service , but, may have been just a bad day.

Only thing Ive heard is the dirt and dust gets into spare wheel mechanism and they dont come down, met a VERY unhappy camper in
Tibooburra where they had to oxy cut the mechanism to get spare off, common problem they say!

Friend of
mine is on his second KK. I have had one now for 2 years. No major problems. No dust problems. Autofridge is great - I agree get it good and cold with the batteries on mains power for several days. When you are travelling the odd day on mains power to charge the batteries will help. I have not had problems with the spare wheel issue - but then I lower and raise it every 6 months or so to keep it OK.
Last year I did have problems with the shocks on the trailer - both replaced under warranty no hassles. We have found the dealers service to be excellent. The cap on the brake fluid bowl leaks, but the dealer gave me a different one that does not leak. I know the latest models have various modifications to improve them. eg the gullwing is now alloy reduced the tow ball weight.
I also have a 105 Series T/D Cruiser. The Polyairs are brilliant.
GO anywhere you want. As
Kimberley advertise - wherever you can take the Vehicle, you can take the KK

some poor guy on 4WD monthly
forum just bought one. his post was not good.
Nothing wrong with the trailer.. The after sales
services from the factory at
Ballina was "FU*KED"... He was not a happy chappy.
He's happy with the trailer. Just the people/company he hasa problem with.

Probably too comfortable - with the price they charge for them and to queue - no wonder thay arent interested. I think they and other brands are extremely overpriced for whet you get.
