I am looking for a dealer that can supply me with a cruise control for
my patrol. I like the Acutron as it seems to be totally fly by wire
without the cable pull system. I have written to the manufacturer via
the web and never received a reply. Maybe they are just overworked
with orders and cannot supply, I don't really know. After checking
their web site there does not appear to be a supplier in Townsville
and I am certainly not driving to Brisbane just to get one fitted.
Does anyone know of a dealer that can suppy the unit for a realistic
cost complete with installation instructions.

G'day

I have the Ozzcruise (Autron) in my GUIV. An extra cost option to fit the genuine Nissan Cruise control switch at installation, is available. This allows an on/off switch plus a speed monitor option as well as cruise.

Regards

Paul

I also have an Autron on my 3.0 litre GUIV and have found it to be an excellent unit now that some initial teething problems have been sorted by an excellent local WA dealer/installer (not the one the selling Nissan dealer used to do the initial install). Sorry, but I have found Autron in Tullarmarine to be nothing short of effing useless never answering my e-mails or snail mail. When cornered on the phone, they claimed they had sent replies??? Regarding any technical queries they seem to disagree amongst themselves as to what the unit can or can't do and so just fill you up with b...s and worst of all they never ring you back when they promise to do so. I cannot stress strongly enough that whatever unit you end up with DO NOT repeat DO NOT fit a cable pull type to pull the accelerator pedal. These have the inherent inbuilt danger of getting stuck by fouling or just refusing to release. This the exactly why Nissan are not able at present to offer a factory fitted cruise on the 3.0litre engine and have recalled all the ones they did fit and refunded the money to all the owners of the affected vehicles. Apparently at least one got stuck (in WA) and the driver reached speeds I am told of 140kph when passing a road train. Fortunately he lived to tell the tale with the only damage I understand being a pair of new undies. If you do go for the Autron, which is designed to suit the fly by wire technology make sure you get your installer to give you a coast function. If you have a manual you just tap the clutch pedal to get it to coast, but if like me you have an auto (wife’s idea not mine) they only way you can get it to coast is tap the brake pedal which is not an option I like for one reason that it activates your brake lights at the same time. The only other way you can disengage the unit is to turn the "on/off" button "off" then you have to hit it again to turn it back "on" then hit "res" to resume your previously set speed. The main problem with this method apart from all the button pressing, (there is no back-lighting at night), is that due to the fly by wire technology when you hit "off" the throttle instantaneously, and I mean instantaneously, snaps shut which at highway speeds (and better) causes a very abrupt "jerk". Apart from not being the way I like to operate a vehicle that my life may one day rely on, it is enough to startle sleeping passengers as well. One of the advantages of the Autron unit is that is uses "data" for it's signals rather than 12v so they can send various signals up and down the horn wire (the unit being steering wheel mounted). What my dealer has done is to tap into the handbrake warning lamp switch. When I want to "coast" I just lift the handbrake lever (which the left hand falls easily to) a fraction, just enough to activate the lamp but not enough to actually operate the brake and the units then smoothly goes into coast. I believe as well as the fly by wire technology being the reason for the very abrupt transition when turning the unit "off" also the fact there is no throttle linkage or cable mechanism to "cushion" the return to the idle position. Whilst we don't realise it in everyday driving the conventional throttle mechanism actually closes quite slowly when we release the pedal in comparison to electronic technology. If you do decide to go this way and I can be of any further assistance please let me know. The Nissan dealer charged me $675.00 inc GST fitted.

Thank you all for the replys especially Blown4by. Most informative. I did hear about the cable ones being a bit sus and the removal by "some" Nissan dealers. The acutron seems to be the better one though a bit hard to install. I am quite handy with electronic having a 40 year background in electronics maintenance. I feel I am competent enough to do the install without any hiccups. I am currently working on a lock up system that can be set to different speeds and unlocks under the set speed. Got most of the circuitly done, just waiting for sufficient time to do some testing.

Again thanks for ther replys. Great forum for 4WD lovers.

angler I spoke to my contact here in WA & he says you won't be able to get a kit (without fitting) for the 3.0 litre Patrol due to it being fly by wire the unit has to be "enabled" and you need the IT gizmo to be able to do that! Sorry can't help any further. If you have a "friendly" local Autron agent you might be able to buy a kit from him and get him to "enable" it for the right price after you have installed it. (Assuming he drinks that is:-)

Blown$by,

Looks like I may have to wait till I am in Brisbane to get one fitted.

No one up here has any and no dealers are listed on the acutron site for my area.

I will save my $700.00 and maybe upgrade the coils instead.

Thanks anyway.

The Autron unit comes with two booklets being operating instructions and installation manual. The install manual looks pretty comprehensive and gives you wiring diagrams and test procedures to actually ensure all the connections are correct, as well as trouble shooting info. It does refer to some special computing tooling but that might only be needed for changing it's program , etc. The unit apparently can be set up to do all sorts of optional things depending on what other electronic wizardry is in the vehicle. Not sure how you will go just buying the kit. I'll see if I can find out from the Dealer over here that gave me a lot of help. Good luck.
