Could someone please tell me [exactly???] what is, or where to find, the information that specifies when [eg:km's] and who [eg:dealer, registerd mechanic, myself or someone from mars] is allowed to perform a service without voiding 'the manufacturers' warranty.
Help in this matter would be greatly appreciated, as the dealer doesn't like to give out to much info. Apparently they can only converse with 'Nissan' via e'mail.
The time frame: Build date - Feb 2004
Purchased - Late Feb 2004
Km's To date [11/11/2005] - 48636
Please Help.

http://www.lubemobile.com.au/lb/Warranty.php

There are many more examples, just google. My Patrol hasn't been serviced by a dealer since I bought it. Just make sure any parts replaced are genuine otr equivalent.

Thanks Pat, it took me a while to find this site. I'm not to flash with computers.
Does purchasing parts, say filters, oil, shocks, brakepads, etc, from your local shop[cheapa, global, repco, etc]mean equivalent. Can I fit them myself. Do you know how long between oil changes is ok.

Oil changes are 10000kms for a 3.0 patrol, for normal driving, probably same for the Navara. 5000kms would be better though. I did see a link somewhere were an owner had used Ryco filters (I think) and Nissan knocked back a warranty claim. It went to court and Ryco claimed their filter was the equivalent and backed it up with all sorts of data but Nissan still won.

genuine parts dont have to be used at all.
the only problem is if there is a problem that was caused bye a non genuine part that caused the fault.nissan ect wont cover it .it then goes back to the supplier of the failed part.
eg you fit a ryco air filter and it bursts and blows the engine you have to claim through ryco.
most bigger name brands have that waranty info on the pacaging.
i wouldnt go using wong dong filters thats when you might have trouble.

G'day

Genuine parts MUST be used.
Service according to manufacturers recommendations BY
A qualified mechanic.

Keep all records. I purchase genuine parts from the dealer (even the oil) and have a qualified mechanic carry out services according to the manufacturers requirements.

Regards

Hi loopy
HERE is an extract from the IAME (Institute Automotive Mechanical Engineers) journal and they have been in contact from the ACCC.
Hope this helps.

Thank you everyone,so far. The reason i've asked this question is my turbo s--t itself. I have a JCB Backhoe with 10,000 engine hours,4cyl,T/Diesil going strong and I maintain it myself. Put that in a car @ 1500revs[Average], times it by 40kms=400'000kms. Obviously earthmoving equipment engines are stronger, apparently, but it is still a 4cyl TD. I finally buy a new car I can't touch [due to warranty, supposedly] and it's turbo packs it in at 48000k's??? Nissan are ducking weaving.
