Was wondering if the deep cycled, sealed batteries were safe to install inside a camper trailer. I am looking at setting the trailer up with 12v lighting etc, but I do not want to put the battery box on the draw bar, there is enough weight on the towball already. I know that traditional lead acid batteries give off explosive gases while re-chargeing, but I was wondering which batteries I could install inside the sealed camper trailer section safely.
Thanks, OM&M.

We just fited out our camper and after much research decided on the "Full River" AGM batteries from :
http://www.lakecomm.com.au/batteries.html
We used two of the 130AH batteries and have found them great so far as ease for chargeing them. We also thought they were the best value we could find for the dollars.
If you want more details on how we wired our ct up let me know.
Hope it helps.
Boo

Optima make a fully sealed battery with a long guarantee period. You can operate them upside down if you like. Many of the camper trailer manufacturers fit deep cycle batteries eg Pioneer, Cub,
Kimberley, Adventure, etc. Maybe check with them to seewhat they use or a reputable auto lekky.

AGM are definitely the best suited to a caravan or camper trailer application.

Fully sealed batteries do not give off Hydrogen normally - but if your Alternator voltage goes high it will still give off gas. I good trick is to listen to the battery after you've been running the engine for a while - if you hea strong bubbling you may have a problem.
I've just bought a Remco AGM from BatteryWorld. They also sell Optima AGMs but these are MUCH dearer - unless you have an aircraft or Armoured Personnel Carrier, I think they are overkill.
