Those 3 way fridges usually draw large current on 12 Volt, I'd go take a look but my Local Repco Store burnt down last night LOL.
Poor buggers

I think those fridges might be chescold ( not sure about spelling) I had one for years and it works pretty good. I used to keep them on 240V until leaving home and have them on 12 V while travelling. In
camp I used to run it on Gas.
Good Fridge.

B*#""dy hell - I wish those Chinese would hurry up and improve their standard of living... then the prices of their manufactures will rise, and I might be able to sell my 3 way Chestcold - I just bought a Waeco - at those Repco prices I might have two fridges forever.... sob.

I tried one of these cheap 3-way fridges. Wasn't from Repco, but any of the cheap ones I have looked at were very similar internally, with just a few cosmetic differences on the outside.
After extensive testing over 5 days on the balcony in semi-shade, I found it HOPELESS. Minimum temperature achieved was about 5 degrees. Couldn't drop the temperature of a glass of
water put into the fridge at 20 degrees to less than 10 degrees after being left in the fridge undisturbed overnight.
I even tried adding a cooling fan to the system - looked at several websites to see how people recommend you mount the fan - and it made a little bit of difference, but nothing to change my mind.
It went back to the
camping store - the owner initially put up a fight, claiming they were only designed to keep things cold, not make things cold, but when I started saying that a refridgerator should keep food below 4 degrees to prevent bacteria growing, he gave in and refunded my money. Have been back to the store a few times and they are still selling them...
I have since rented a Chescold 50litre fridge / freezer and was impressed - you get what you pay for! However I still think I'll go for an Evakool when I am eventually have reason to buy a fridge.
Cheers
David

When I bought my Aussie Swag camper ten years ago,the firm had 30 of them out on hire to all areas of Australia. They were all fitted with ChesCold 3-way fridges..So that is what I bought..Magic fridge, for a 3-way,that is..I,years later,"killed" it by not using it often enough.I should have left it permanently plugged into 240v..How-ever,we must remember that most fridges, when sold as a "three way" will be using heat as the energy/cooling source..Electricity and heat are not good companions (except the micro-wave,non thermal process) as a rule,so,if you are after a unit to power from batteries, you possibily have little option, but to buy the latest technology in compressor types (Danfross etc) as my Waeco has yet to flatten a battery, even over a few days. Some exellent fridges are also made on the Sunshine Coast, just north of
Brisbane. These are ideal for real expeditions and fishing..Have fun! RockyOne!MPG:7!
