Writing from South Africa -
Has anyone in Australia heard about reliability problems relating to the 3-litre Nissan Turbo Diesel (ZD30) engine? - this is the non-intercooler engine.
I read an article somewhere on the Net (cant find the source now) that the turbos seize before 80,000kms.
Some time after finding the article,
mine seized at 77,000kms but Nissan SA maintain that worldwide there is no such problem.
Any information will be greatly appreciated.

DDN,
Didn't know Nissan made a non-intercooled 3.0 ltr TD. With all the electronics associated with the TD I'm surprised to say the least. Learn something every day. Needless to say I haven't heard of the problem and hopefully won't, we have enough problems of our own with the (early) intercooled 3.0 without taking that bit off.

I think in Australia all the Patrols with the (ZD30) engine had an intercooler but the Navaras didn't

Thanks for the reply Martyn
For the record, what are the main problems with the inter-cooled version?
We have the non-intercooled fitted to the commercial 'pick-up', while the
'twin-cab' has the inter-cooled.
Nissan SA maintain that none of their engines have inherent problems - any problems arising are driver-related.

At the top of the
Forum page is a box labeled "Search Options".
Type 3.0 litre Nissan or variations of that topic in the box, tick the search body and name, click on switch post view to both and then see what comes up.
Absolutely hundreds of posts and replies concerning issues with the 3.0 Litre Nissan engines, see if they match you problems.
Failing that others will no doubt respond in time on here with first hand experience on your issues.
Cheers

My resaerch to date indicates that the motor is very structually sound, the turbo may have a seal problem, which can of course, lead to bearing failure..On another posting a few weeks ago on the great ExplorOz forums, some folk suggested that "running on" after killing the motor was caused by lubricating oil entering through the "cool side" of the intake turbine, then the (now fuel) fluid enters the combustion chambers causing,of course, detenation on compression, hence the running on..Early indications of this condition emerging could be blue smoke from the exhaust..If I was lucky enough to own one,I would add Bi-Tron additive to enhance the lube qualities of the re-commended oil,as it may be quit suitable for the engine, but lacking in the high speed bearing area of the two turbos, inlet and exhaust..
Well worth persisting with,I feel as the vehicle is
well suited to real off-road applications (We owned a patrol for seven years from new, towed tons with it,never put a spanner on it.Gasoline motor..Thirsty)
