On my patrol I get a slight vibration and lag just as the turbo is about to kick in around 1900 - 2000rpm mark. I find it annoying but love the car!
Anyone else experience this? and is there a fix?
Cheers

Could this be the warning that the turbo is about to let go, no.3 piston about to be holed, the "air sensor" has already carked it, possibly one of several other problems?
These nissan type questions, and the ones about dud battery isolators, plastic fridge cases that break up, etc. ad nauseum are about the most prolific on the au. forums in general.
Just why you people keep buying these known faulty products, then bleat about the problems has me stuffed.
Have always said: Caveat Emptor!

Kesh...name one car,4wd, off road tire,
camp fridge ,
suspension or anything else on here that has not had a problem.
You cannot say that you yourself have never purchased a product and not had problems with it..the idea of this
forum is to give advise and not critasize the post.
As for the Nissan problems there are still thousands of earlier models running around with no problems to the owners as is with the 100 series tojo's. What do you drive ?..I bet I can find some complaint or problem that has been posted in here before.

Sorry folks, but I somehow knew what the responses would be.
If I had popped a similar Q. re my tdi Disco there would have been a flood of negatives about what a load of cr@p they are etc. etc.
However, I dont need to ask for an opinion, cause in nearly 200k. it hasnt caused any drama.
Its a bit like the "never tow in 5th." syndrome (nissan)
Well why do they put a 5th. gear in then if you cant use it?
Seems to me, if it aint Nissan, Toyota, Engel, Waeco or Redarc go somewhere else.

Andrew, first things first. Your turbo doesn't just "kick in". It would start producing boost from just above idle upwards, full boost should be available from about 1600 revs up, depending on the load on the engine, as turbo's work under load.
I'd be more inclined to start looking at the Air Mass Sensor before I went any further. A trip to your friendly Nissan dealer, with all the you beaut diagnostic
tools should be able to pin point it straight up.
Regards,
Peter

PG
Mine is a manual GUIII, the one with the corrected oil issue and 5th gear cog.(thank goodness)
The issue I mention has really been there since new. I had the airflow sensor changed about six months ago with no difference. I have done 80,000k's now with really no trouble. The 'sometimes' vibration and lag seems to be something we just have to live with going from other posts on the subject. I just wish someone knew what is was. There must be a fix for it if only knew the problem.
Thanks to all for your input...the constructive ones anyway!

I would check the air sensor as suggested but depending on what age your GU is ?The lag and vibration was in
mine from new,
mine is a GUIV Auto delivered May this year and after seeing and feeling the difference in my mates GUIII after he fitted Safari Dtronic I bit the bullet and did the same and instantly the lag and vibration was gone due to the Dtronic

Hi,
Mine has that, the lag that is, around 1800-2000rpm. Have not noticed vibrations though. Had the airflow sensor replaced about 3000k ago (for a different issue) and thought it was gone, but it still has it. I wouldn't worry about it too much.
Cheers

Do you have one of those oiled "socks" in you
snorkel? They can contribute to partial restriction in air flow.
