What do you intend to do with your lux and what kind of riving do you mostly do?

I went the manual myself, loving it and good gearing for downhill decents I found

I bought the Manual, auto seemed a little to relaxed, good engine bracking too. Toyota have a licesne to print money with those Hilux's I save over $5,000 of the purchase price by using car brocker, leaves room for suspensions, snorkel and an ARB deluxe bull bar.

I too went for the manual in my '05 TD. I think this is the first model they have offered an auto in the diesel. You should get slightly better fuel consumption in the manual. Other reasons were I figured it is better for towing and down hill engine braking. Final reason was 'I just wanted a manual'.

For town and possibly sand driving the auto is probably better. I just like being in control when off road.

Didn't really care either way , but to get the go ahead from the better half, opted for the auto. Mostly will be used to tow jet ski(sick of wheel spin on boat ramp in old EL falcon - twice towed by 4x4) and transport dirtbike to riding areas( no need for trailor). Will be camping with family, but only min.-mod. 4x4 use. Signed up on Monday for ute, left deposit and was told Hilux to be delivered on 8th. Dec. Get call on Wednesday to say "my" car was unfortunately pre-sold 2 days earlier. Salesman tells me his computer printout was a day old! He's now chasing up other dealer allocated vehicles due in mid Dec. P.....off. Yes, they do appear to be overpriced, but fleet discount and claiming back the G.S.T. make it worthwhile.

I went for the manual xcab TD. Great vehicle. I'm 12,000km into it after @3months and it hasn't skipped a beat mechanically yet.

Not happy with the stock tyres though, have some ATR Coopers on order for next wk. Sinking in the sand too much for my liking.

as far as 'why' the manual over the automatic? automatic restricted my choice of body style and fuel type too much, diesel has a better resale in the longrun (moreso in the Red Centre) and the manual gives a bit more control for compression descents and undergearing climbs. *shrugs* can't stand automatics either. nothing happening with the left foot in an auto :)
