I have a late 99 Courier 2.5l turbo desiel, it tends to have a lttle shutter in the clutch particulary when reversing with a boat on. My first thought is a broken engine or gearbox mount. Anyone else had the same problem or any ideas?

My memories of Fords etc way back was that, when reversing,if the "V" locater running foward of the rear axle, was worn at the mountings, severe shudder in reverse was normal..If your shudder was there in foward as wellas reverse, then and only then would we expect it to be a clutching problem..In this case,it would appear you are on the right track and gearbox/motor mounts may be the culprits. In theory,if you had the rear axle on two stands, handbrake on,front
wheels well chocked (jus to be sure) and tried reverse, you may be able to pin-point the problem..If a 4x4 without manual front hubs, give it a miss..Doubt if rear shockers are contributing to the issue, but anything's possible..Have fun .. RockyOne!MPG:4!

The previous owner must have been pretty rough for replacement at 60,000km. I have had a 2001 Courier for last 3 years and when I bought it (ex Council) there was 40,000km on clock. Now has 165,000Km and has numerous trips around
Beachport and 10 day run through Flinders and I am only now considering that the clutch might need replacement at next service.
Never had any shudder when reversing tandem trailer. Agree may need to check mounts.
