My Patrol stopped a couple of weeks ago and after 8 days in the local Nissan workshop they have indicated that the fuel pump is stuffed and it will cost $2800 just for a rebuilt part.

I am starting to hear that this is not uncommon and that Nissan actually changed the fuel pump in the 2002 model and also there was some talk of Nissan reducing the specified replacement of the fuel filter from the scheduled 40000km to 20000km.

Can anyone shed any light on these isssues for me.

At the moment I am feeling pretty ticked off, I have a vehicle with a complete service history that is 10000km's out of waranty and I look like having to fork out about $4000 to have this fixed.

Nissan have also told me that one of the cylinders tested 100psi low when they were trying to work out what was wrong, they are now telling me this could just be glazing as a result of the cranking to try and get it going. I am not very mechanical but this does not sound very likely to me.

Any information appreciated.

Some 4wd mags have reported this problem for a while, forget the Nissan fuel pump, head down to a good diesel mechanic and get a replacement pump. Highway diesel at Coopers plains in brisbane specialise in Nissan fuel pumps they can get those things movin real quick, they have done some work for Nissan in the outback challenge, contat them on 07 3277 5805 if your in queensland, furthermore Nissan in 3.0l TD had problems with their cylinders starving from a lack of oil, talk to the experts and get a good diesel mechanic to give you a second opinion.

Just thought I would clarify a point, By no means am i advertising a product my apologies for my poor sense of desciption, what I should have said is this "A good diesel mechanic or injector specialist would be able to rebuild your OE fuel pump allot cheeper than buying a poxy replacement nissan pump" I have been through this process with my 80 series cruiser it just so happens to be that the Diesel mechanics I mentioned where really helpful and explained the whole thing to me.

I'd be getting the engine checked out by a diesel place before I fitted a new pump.
One cylinder down a 100 psi sounds horribly like a stuffed/melted piston which this engine is noted for.
I'd also search on this subject as others have had engine replaced/repaired by Nissan despite being out of warranty.
Might have to bypass dealer and approach Nissan direct, the contact name and number has been mentioned here before.

Back to your old tricks Bill? You are beginning to sound like one of those touts outside the old "snake oil" wagons. A pretty accurate image in my mind.

Bill S,
Are you for real or have you got a Roo missing in the top paddock! If you are flogging a product & advertising on this Forum than maybe the moderator should have a peek at you.
