ACDC,
Would like to know where you plumbed in the boost guage on the 3.0l Nissan that you measured 25psi?
TIA.....Leroy

Any Auto parts store (Autobarn, Repco Autopro etc) keeps boost guages, mainly for the ricer boys but they're all the same.
Just find one the right size that goes high enough and away you go.
As far as where to connect it...I don't have a Patrol so I can't say. Options generally are air tubing connected to the inlet manifold or wastegate control lines (the Patrol may not have this) with a T-piece or tap a new thread into the manifold/intercooler. If you tap a new thread you'll need to remove the manifold etc and make absolutely sure there are no metal pieces left inside when you pu it back on. Metal particles will make a real mess of inlet and exhaust valves, piston crowns or the Turbo impeller wheel if left in. Very expensive...

Yep, getting the gauge isn't the issue...I got a VDO gauge from my local auto electrical place.
Mine only goes from 0 to 15psi, but it sounds like the 3 L should have the next one up...0 to 30psi. I'd suggest you could mount it on your "A" pillar using the lower bolt that holds the grab handle, making up an angled bracket. The gauges are almost all 52mm diameter and you can get a simple holder for it which goes onto the bracket you'd make. If you don't like it up on the A pillar, you could mount it on the dash using velcro or down on the transmission tunnel near the gear stick.
The part that ACDC needs to tell us about is where do the "experts" tap into the inlet area to connect the pick-up tube.
Cheers
Roachie

I have just spoken to guy at a company in
Perth who seemed to know what i was talking about. Don't know if i will find anyone further South who will know what they are doing though. Guy sounded quite knowledgeable, so may be worth the trip up and not risk problems when we go away on holidays. Thanks, Motherhen

Another company i had emailed just relied "With the Nissan Patrol 3lt we have seen some of the problem. listed in your email.
We recommend that you keep a eye on the air cleaner and use Genuine air filter elements. Dirty or restricted Air filters will cause oil vapour from the breather to build up around the air flow meter.
For improved performance a new exhaust system 2 1/2" hiflow
is now available for this vehicle.
We can supply a VDO 0-30 psi boost gauge which comes with all the adaptors. Your local mechanic would be able to fit Boost Gauge.
Boost gauge kit $98.18 + gst Total $108.00"
First company was wise enough to say that as we have blown a hose, it may indicate a problem with the mass airflow sensor. He estimated looking into this as
well as fitting gauge at around $800.

Motherhen, $800 is way to expensive for those 2 jobs. As you said in your previous followup the boost gauge kit is just over $100, it shouldn't take more than a couple of hours to fit and wire the gauge. As for the air flow sensor the replacement costs are down to about $250 now as only the sensor part is replaced not the complete assembly as before.
Get the boost gauge fitted 1st and see how your car is going then decide where you want to go from there.
Regards Andrew.

Hi Leroy - i posted the full email from turbotech.com.au, emailing sales@. He didn't give any further info on where to fit it.
I faxed
United fuel injection and the guy rang back - he was the one who sounded knowledgeable about the problem, and estimated an all up cost of fitting gauge and checking the sensor at around $800 when i pushed him to estimate - it was not a quote.
Still haven't got back to this, but we must do something soon as we want to go to Tasmania early next year. We would like to find someone local who knows what they are doing - and i don't like our chances of that.

Motherhen
sounds like you have been speaking to
United fuel injection.
I'm getting them to weld a nossle to the pipe after the intercooler (carton)
Boost guage from repco ($56.00) i'll fit myself.
Its unfiortunate that we have to do this to a 40 odd thousand dollar car just so we can check that mas airflow sensor is working properly

Hi Goons, I have just added a follow up in this post. Yes it was
United. Are they good? He sounded like he understood.
Then if it is not working properly, the sensor would need attention too. All out of my league.
