To All,
Has anyone heard of or experienced first hand the rear chassis on a 98 - 02' Rodeo beding/breaking. Happened to me on the way back from Cape York. Was towing a camper trailer way under the towing weight capacity. Talking to engineers in Townsville I was told that it is a common occurance. Later models with the same chassis have had gussets installed to strengthen the particular area which is just in front of rear wheels. Any info much appreciated.

I have seen one and heard of 6 others '00 - '02 rodeos either cracking/bending in the chassis (middle to front of rear wheel). (Note these rodeo's were under warranty that I know about)

Holden make people sign a legal doc if they want it fixed - if your luckly. It will take you months proving and jumping hurdles before they do anything - if your luckly.

Saw one in the simpson a couple of years ago broke in half, appeared to be a common problem. This one had bent twice. Insurance would not touch it and $3,600 for a recovery job back to alice. They were selling fuel for water as no communications and one person hitchiking back to Dare.

Saw a Rodeo on a tagalong in October 2004 on the Anne Beadell Hwy near Emu. Had a canopy on the back of a dual cab - had the tell-tale V-shaped opening between cab and canopy when you looked at his vehicle side on. He was totally oblivious to what had happened - I'd guess it would have sunk in soon after.

Saw a Hilux in the same situation a few months earlier in Birdsville.

Cheers
Phil

Our farm Rodeo is about 98 vintage, I think the Chassis bent some years ago as the tray now knocks the cab when there was a 3 inch gap before, there is no evidance of the tray or body mounts bending so it leads me to believe it is the chassis, mentioned it to my mechanic and he wasn't surprised.

have a 99 rodeo, has anyone strengthend their chassis and could explain to me where exactly they did it and how, and could possibly send me some pics?
Im planning a trip around oz, and am now a little paranoid about my chassis bending, twisting, cracking etc.

Thanks
Dan

Dan, This problem is not uncommon. Seems to happen to Rodeo's that are towing. If u want to strengthen, go and see a Holden dealer and get a pair of gussets (they have a part number but I'm unsure of it) and have them welded in place. The area in which the bend/break occurs is just behind front tub bracket mount on chassis. Just have a look at any 4x4 rodeo 00' - 02' model to veiw gussets. Looks like Holden realised the problem and started installing them on all the new Rodeo 4x4's of those years.

I'm pretty sure this 'problem' has been rectified on the TF series- with a slightly different design & gusseted ladder chassis. I don't know how the RA will go being manufactured offshore (Thailand??). I know NSW Police aren't happy with them as the cage bolt-downs are tearing thru the thin metal- and even a slight help with a 'passenger' (if ya know what I mean) on the front guards, dents the guard.
It is not peculiar to the Rodeo either- has been known on HiLux also.

What series Rodeo do you have??
