Just to update on this thread that I started a while back (and can't find)...
I tested the glow plugs on my 2.8 diesel and number 5 cylinder showed up to be a dud. I replaced the plug this weekend and this morning the truck fired up without the blue/white smoke that I have been used to.
Thanks for the ideas everyone. I was surprised that one duff glow plug could cause so much smoke - but there you are - it does.
Cheers, Jim

Hi there Jambobwana, glad you found the problem, and the best bit of all was the cost I bet. Wish all repairs were that easy and cheap. Now you can take your mind of it and enjoy the travelling. Regards Vitara

Ah mate! I was getting worried when I saw the "No-5" cyl as the memories of my sons Holden 202 motors came back..He blew a piston, told a mechanic who comes into our work. The mec said "bet it was no-5" It was.Apparently,on that motor, that is the one that usually blows..Strang but true! Glad you never had that problem..Whew! Have fun (now, without the worry) RockyOne
