This was asked at the end of another thread and was missed by most..

Given that vehicle manufacturers have improved factory rustproofing over the pasy 10 years or so, is there any point in having professional rustproofing done even if you are keeping the vehicle long term.

We'd spend a weekend a month on the beach and have a couple of weeks a year camped there too. I am considering forgetting the professional chemical treatment this time and simply using Salt Assault or an equivalent now and then. But there will still be the full wash down after all trips.

Not interested in ERPS or equivalents.

What do people think of this approach?

That doesn't prove anything. I spent 2 weeks on Fraser and had no rust proofing and I too have no signs of rust as yet. This argument just doesn't cut it unless you have an identical control vehicle that wasn't rust proofed that was there at the same time as you and has an identical life and is now rusting.

30 years ago, I had all my vehicles rust proofed. They oozed brown sticky muck everywhere for weeks (sometimes months) later and stunk to high heaven. One rust proofer convinced me to do the front floor so that salt water brought into the carpets by lots of beach work would not cause rust. I just about needed a gas mask for 6 months after that. I hated going anywhere in the car. In the hot weather, the stuff would soften and start stinking again. I got rid of the car eventually, long before it would have rusted. The stink influenced my decision.

My last 5 4WDs were not rust proofed, and apart from some surface rust from stone chipping, none developed rust. I firmly believe that with modern construction techniques and materials, it is no longer necessary.

I have had vehicles rust proofed before and yes the fisholene in a couple of them on the floors and inside the boot as always present. just didn't go away.

Some blokes swear by the fish oil plus techtol.

I am of the opinion it's a relatively small amount of money well spent, esp when you take into consideration the cost of the vehicle.
My only advice would be to get it done professionally by a reputable mob as they have the gear and the knowhow to get the stuff into all the little nooks and crannies.

Even with Al panels, I had the Fender done and asked them to give it the full treatment, as if it was all steel.

Relatively small cost v relatively large peace of mind.

But still give it the treatment with the garden hose on your return.

Cheers

Can't always be sure I'll be able tob reach every nook and cranny with the hose so rust treatment may be for the best.

Use the salt assault to wash it then give it a spray with 329, just as good as any commercial rust proofing treatment. Just take your time and make sure you get into all the panels.

Cheers.........

Now you're askin!!! From memory it cost around $45 and I think I used about half a container to do the Paj. Can check, still have the remainder in the shed.(reminds me, probably time for another dose....) Used the Staun Applicator and Massojet.

Cheers.........
