Hello Good People
I have a Nissan Patrol Petrol GQ Auto.... My challenge is when its in cruise mode eg:above 90 kph it occassionally drops back down a gear. I have changed the throttle positioning sensor on the carby with no result Any Ideas re solution would be appreciated

Hi Gandolf,
Are you sure that your transmission is actually dropping back a gear or is it your torque converter locking and unlocking?
If it's the converter, then it's not all that uncommon, especially when your towing or climbing hills.
This is another reason some of us fit manual converter locking switches, so we can control when the converter is locked instead of the TCU controlling it.

Agree even a small incline hardly noticable is enough at times just depends on your speed and throttle position

Not being too clever at such mods i was wondering how much this would cost to be done by a mechanic or trans specialist?

If your interested, I would get an auto sparky to check out the circuit. They should be able to wire it in because it's really just a couple of switches and relays. The hard part is finding the wire to splice into from the TCU to the converter solonoid.
Your looking at around $50 in parts and whatever he would charge for labor.
