A cousin of
mine has had his injector pump spit the dummy on his 3L diesel Nissan Navara. The Navara is just over 3 Years old and travelled 74000 Kms. Nissan have told him that because the Navara is just over the 3 year warranty they will not come to the party and a new pump will cost approx $5000. Is this a common problem with Nissan pumps? I have a 2004 Nissan Patrol 3L diesel and hope I don't have this problem. I would welcome any comments.

the injection pump on the ZD30 engines are the rotary type (VP44 to be exact).
The most common causes of failure are;
1. running the pump dry (fuel
tank empty before change over)
2.
water contamination
3. blocked filter leading to effectively #1.
If you let us know what area you are in, somebody will be able to direct you to a proper diesel system repair facility.
