Ummm.....good quality oil, and well filtered air and fuel.

Or is this a trick question?

Looks like the beginning of an infomercial....

I am waiting for a reply starts along the lines of:

Gee JASO95, i have just the product for you. I have been working tirelessly for the past 15 years in my shed in central queensland on this product that the major manufacturers tried to keep me from selling. I have got hundreds of letters from satisfied customers (but no actual scientific figures), and I get 95% savings in my 1995 80 series landcruiser. I am very trustworthy, so there is no need to ask what is in the product...blah...blah.....

Or am I just being sceptical?

i have a 92 gq patrol 4.2 diesal, the last couple of months i started using moreys diesal additive every tank full. i have since picked up about 40 to 50 more ks from a tank and also feel the motor is running a lot smoother, and it feels a bit more responsive. i didnt notice any benefit till about 3 full tanks. col

I've never been a great believer in additives, but a couple weeks ago I picked up some gear from Don Kyatts & the salesman gave me a trial sample bottle of Flash Lubes new diesel conditioner. Put it in (50ml to 50lt) and I am damn sure it goes better. Bought a litre bottle and trialing it to see if there is actually an improvement in economy or not. Doesn't bother me if there isn't , just seems as though the old 2.8D runs better'.

Hi there Sarg, I presume your talking about the DON KYATTS at seven hills nsw, thats where I just bought knuckle kits and bushes for the springs, his prices are fantastic,I'd like to know how you go with the additive as thats what's in mine 2.8 89 d/cab. I would presume that none of this stuff does any damage to the pump. I have never used any thing as I have read (on this site) that these type's of products damage the seals in the diesel pumps??? Do you live local, Im located at Glenmore Park (penrith). Regards Vitara

Hi Vitara
No sorry, I am in Perth, but you are right, their prices take some beating.
The guy told me that this stuff helps now that the sulphur content in diesel has been reduced. Won some gold medal for something or other.
I'm not trying to promote it, just telling it as I find it myself & non-believers can take it or leave it . At $9 a litre bottle don't be so tight & miserable, buy some & suck it & see for yourself.

We use Flashlube from Don Kyatt - have done for about 5 years - and both the diesels we have had run cleaner and more efficiently with it - my mechanic reckons it is keeping all the relevant parts free from gunk - and do not damage the diesel pump, but indeed, do help with the new diesel.
Try it an see for yourself - especially in an older vehicle - you should really notice a difference I think.

FlashLube is the engine eq of garlic..Notice how us garlic users don't get all the coughs and sniffles (sickies-wimps) the non-believers do? If you have a good ear for the sutle sounds emenating from your music,be it rock or a Struass waltz, you will soon appreciate the different tune your motor plays when FlashLube is added..You will also, with your appreciative ear, note the completly different, out of tune sounds your motor makes on those occasions you have either, forgotten to add the "vitamins" or,have run out of product..The exhaust visible emmisions and throttle feel will be markedly different also..The non-believers how-ever,happily mix oil into the fuel of their little two-stroke motors on their weed-gobblers and chain-saws.."But that's different!" ;-) Need more info? Try : www.flashlube.com.au I run, amongst others,a 1994 Rocsta with a Mazda 18 year old, second hand R-2 diesel (ex-Japan) and it purrs,on Bi-Tron additive in the oil and FlashLube in the diesel..Have fun..RockyOne !MPG:7!

I'm not saying this product goes into the snake oil bin for me,

BUT.....

When will one of these manufacturers post some proper test results?

I had a look throuh the website, and there is stuff there like guiness world record certificates, pretty graphs, and all sorts of numbered tables.

When I actually got to reading the details, the "scientific" test results relied on visual ratings (no doubt rated by a flashlube employee) and built up convoluted tables and graphs from there. One of the tests measured wear on a piston, and was calculated to a depth of 1/1000th of a mm. If that was the case, they should at least post up the certificate from the accredited testing facility they measured that from. Oh thats right, it was an in-house test....

The Guiness Record stuff was not for the product, it was for a record drive in 1999 of a Daewoo Musso. There is a letter from John Taylor (the driver) saying that he used flashlube in the car. Funny that the product was not used in any of the subsequent world record drives (like the Peuget returning 3.49L/100km on a round Australia trip - amazing!)...hmmmm.

I say, if these products are so good, the manufacturer should do some proper testing. Do some blind tests. Hit the dynos. The fact is, there are enough people out there spending good money then subconsciously changing their driving style, and saving fuel, for them to worry about a little thing like whether the product actually works.

Just my 2 cents, anyway.
