I have recently installed a 2"
suspension kit (OME - springs and shocks) and it has transformed the Jeep into a very capable tourer. It used to bottom out easily. Best $1,500 I have ever spent. Pity about the fuel
tank range though with only 78l on board and a 4.7l V8. If Toyota and Nissan can do it I can't understand why other manufacturers can't.

1) What took you so long with your
suspension? ;)
2) Out of Town 4WD in
Newcastle NSW now has an additional
tank (60L I think) that will tuck up under the LHS of your WG Grand.
Cheers

Being cautious I guess and waiting for the Jeep warranty to expire. I live in
Nhulunbuy in the NT so the cost of getting aux tanks is high, you can buy a lot of Jerry cans for a couple of Grand.

True.... although they then take up space inside your car.... which isn't ideal (fumes, etc).
The reason that Jeep didn't put a larger
tank system into the Grand is simple enough - in America fuel is never more than 50
miles away.

I may be wrong, but I believe that it's illegal to carry fuel jerrys anywhere outside the vehicle - including on the tailgate. This leaves you only being able to carry them inside - as long as they have adequate ventilation.
Catch-22

I jacked my 2000 V8 Grand with ARB 40mm lift and added 30mm blocks. Fitted a LRA 60Ltr Aux
Tank (from TJM) and did the Old Telegraph both parts to the Cape & then the
Simpson Desert...What a difference...Steady as a rock and no bottom out. 150k latter and a lot of tuff stuff . The only trouble has been the Aux
tank fuel gauge....Transfer is a bit slow so I start it when the
tank is down to 1/4 and the Aux tops the main back to full. Certainly beats carrying fuel on the roof in the heat or worse still....inside.

Good one klg!! :)
That's a lot of lift for a Grand. Did you get driveline vibrations? What tyres are you running?
And.. more importantly... do you have photos of your WJ up on www.aussiejeepimages.com?
Cheers

No problem. The computer measures from the main
tank and fuel flow so not much difference to filling up at the bowser except some fuel is being used while travelling and transferring....somebody may correct me on this (I can take it). I done a lot of Ks and everything seems to double check OK within the acceptable plus or minus.
Chris.
70mm is about as far as you can go (maybe another 5mm) without doing some major mods I've been told. No driveline vibrations...and I give it heaps (in the NT of course)...tyres are Coopers LT245/75R16. The 75s give a fraction more clearance. On tight turns and if the nose dips then the tyres occasionally do rub on the swaybar connecting link bolt heads and with the OME long travel Nitro shocks the tyres rub on the shocks when fully articulated.. The
Simpson Desert and Walker's Crossing checked this out. No damage done except for some black scuff marks and some noise...I'm use to it now. The Grand doesn't have a lot of room in the wheel arch for much more.
I recommend the Coopers....Used them on my first Jeep as
well as the 2000 Grand. In 8 years only wrecked 1 and that was on the
Gibb River Road.
Waiting on the new Commander to arrive. Diesel I hope....want to fit it out for the Canning ...The Grandie???....
Well I'll miss it....Been a good truck but a Yank V8 petrol on the Canning....Hmmmm.
Cheers

Yep - I'm running the OME kit on
mine too. Being the CRD Laredo, it's already higher (as shipped) than a Limited or Overland as it has the UpCountry kit on as standard. I also run the Cooper ST 245/75-16's like you. A good tyre, although a couple of blokes in the Syd Jeep Club used to run 30mm pspring pucks and fit 265/75-16... with only slight rubbing on the rear shock tubes at full articulation.
