Funny the the kid who caused the accident by falling asleep at the wheel only gets a dangerous driving charge.
Only in America (and Australia in the near future)

Whats that old saying, oh yeah.
A bad carpenter, always blames his tools.
Sad that these things happen, but blaming a vehicle for the operators mistake, is clearly not right.

I agree Baz. In the dim dark past when I was
young (a long long time ago) & stupid (still) I managed to roll a Cooper S. This car would corner like it was on rails except when you dropped the two left hand
wheels off the shoulder into soft mud. So from the US courts findings I was NOT at fault. I wonder if I can make a claim on BMC ??
PS. Stop sticking up for the Exploders Baz, You now have a Disco.

Have to agree with u on this one Baz , u and I both know an Explorer is a damn fine 4x4 , even more operator "forgiving" than most other brands , tis a pity u joined the dark side by going "disco" and myself joining the trol/ cruiser wars by going Landcruiser only because no Explorer diesel ..

At-leased there is still one taking it for the team!! But for how much longer I don’t now. The new ones just don’t have enough 4WD ability.
U-Hall, in the states, will not let you tow one of their trailers with an Explorer due to this myth. The funny thing is the Mountaineer, which is a re-badged explorer, sold by ford under the mercury badge, U-Hall have no problem letting you tow with it.

Might be only in America but pretty sure it will be felt by increased prices for fords in Australia and or increased premiums from your friendly insurance company who have no doubt indemnified ford. Just sucks.
Kind regards

reminds me of that bloke who nearly lost his life when he engaged the "auto-pilot" on his Winebago(sp?)... He went out back to get a drink or something and it ran off the road... He got a new Winebago and a huge settlement for damages...

I think that's been shown to be an urban-myth.....gr8 story though and I've told it around the
camp fire a few times, several years ago.

Hey Bruce
Of course I believed it, you telling me you didn't?
Wow!!! I believe everything I read on here, like that bloke Bill Something or other who tells me that his Fish is the biggest and the best.
Another bloke who tells us his Ego is so big he holds it in his hand, (Somehow I don't think its his ego that he is holding)
And many more
Forum truths.
All held close to my heart.
Cheers

Truckster,
I'm sorry to say that I DID believe it for several years. My reasoning at the time was.........we ARE talking about yanks here......and we all know that they are capable of all-sorts of dumb-arse (to use their venacular) stunts. So, no, it never even occured to me that it could have been a Furphy......just sounded like the sort of thing Homer Simpson would be likely to do!!!!

Truckster,
I did believe it as I saw in on an ABC current affairs program...
Guess you can't trust them either

That Winnebago story is a furphy.
It was mentioned in The West Australian newspaper recently, then on Media Watch they tore the story apart, as it was completely untrue.
The girl who wrote the story had done it off a website story, which was fictional.

How the f### can a persion fall asleep at the wheel, roll the car by over correcting killing the pasenger as a resalt and then have the car blamed as it did not ”slide to safty”.
What kind of emagernry dreem world are the perent’s of this kid living in to blame the incerdent on the car and not the driver.
I am gessing that the driver failed to see the big WARNING sticking on the drivers sun visor stating amongst other thing’s not to make sharp or ubrupt stearing movment’s that may resalt in loss of controll and F*** me dead a ROLLOVER!!.
