Hi

Anyone purchased the "new" series landcruiser and experienced difficulty finding repalcement tyres - for the Dunlop GrandTreks. Tried buying some BFG AT's but apparently they don't make them to the LC's new compliance spec's. Load rating has been increased on new LC to 115 from 112. My dealer said he would sell them to me but refused to put them on - "illegal". Two choices - Toyo AT's or Coopers. My dealer (very reputable and reliable) is recommending the Toyo's - given the 80/20 (road/offroaddriving) I will be doing. Anyone purchased Toyo's before? He has experienced many problems with the Coopers and their balancing and thereore doesn't recommend them above the Toyo's.

Thanks

Hi Tom57, whats wrong with the Dunlop Grand Treks??...........I purchased a new LC100 series Nov04 and in Mach this year went from WA to Tasmainia, all round Tassie (Great Place) then all over SA up to Coober Pedy, out the Oodanadatta track (ruff as guts) then back to WA........put the LC in for the 20,000kms service at Toyota, and they told me when I went to pick it up that the tyres dident need rotating..(I had them done on the 10,000km service)..........I don't drive hard usually 100/110kmph.....and getting 14ltrs per 100kms (20.2mpg) I have the Petrol V8.

The toyos wont be any improvement on the Grand treks they are fine on road - just dont dare show them the dirt. I have had dramas nearly every trip. 1st trip chipped off tread blocks, 2nd trip ripped out a sidewall, 3rd and 4th trip flats No 5th trip - they now sit under the tree by the shed - utter rubish

BFG's et al only rated to 112 apparently. I must be lucky - my Coopers are fine.

The new cruiser (facelift 2 version) has 17" - The BFG AT's 17's are only rated 112. The load index on the tyre packard of the new LC specifies 115 as the load index. The new LC is only a facelift but Toyota in all its wisdom have increased this spec. Michelln who make BFG's (according to rep) do not intend to bring in BFG's (from USA) at that rating into Oz - not sufficient demand to warrant it.
Talked to an insururer - who said I could risk it but if found out it will null & void any accident claims. In my case (Country traveller) - it is not worth that risk.
