G'day V8 Troopie,
I have received the following email and not being able to find your details in the
Membership Listing area on here, I have suggested to Keith
Hamilton that I post his question on the open
forum (he agreed for me to include his "disguised" email addy). Keith is a fellow owner of an Ultimate off-Road Camper trailer and has a problem with the flouro light inside the camper, causing interference with the AM radio (as the aluminium "bow" above the galley also acts as the radio's aerial as
well as holding the flouro light, the cord for which goes through/down the bow to the 12v socket).......
Keith's message reads:
"Dear Roachie,
We have replaced the faltering Arlec WL12 fluoro as the galley light in the
Ultimate with the Arrid Silver Series fluoro from the 12V
Shop. It is a
good
bright fluoro, with the advantage of low-voltage cutout, however we are
back to whistling interference on the AM radio when doing our usual
prospecting
camping in remote parts of the
Pilbara. Bit of a nuisance, as
it is handy to be able to check out the ABC news and weather forecast etc in
the evening...without
trying to
cook tea in the dark!
As I notice you are also a member of the Exploroz
forum I was wondering
whether you might be able to assist by
forwarding/posting this e-mail to V8troopie, as while researching 12V
fluoros I noticed a post by him on Exploroz in June last year. With his
electronics knowhow, he had resolved the interference on a supposedly radio
interference-suppressed fluoro from the 12V
Shop by using an oscilloscope to
find the right value electrolytic capacitor.
As Arrid/12V
Shop have advised me they are not interested in doing mods, if
V8troopie is so inclined I would appreciate it if he could e-mail me any
info re the capacitor size/code in his design that would assist me in trying
to find someone with electronics knowhow who could modify the light.
