I have an 88 cruiser wagon diesel which has a 150l replacement tank up the back. As it runs dual fuel (veg oil an diesel) it needs two tanks, the current set up has the second tank in a temporary fitment in the rear of the wagon. I have routed the exhaust out the side giving a fair amount of space between the tailshaft and main chassis rail for a second tank. The 80 series tank looks like a reasonable option but would require some fabrication of mounts etc. to fit.
Has anyone come accross a suitable tank which will fit easily in that position?
OR
Is there an off the shelf item designed for this location?

Cheers,
Aaron.

I think it's a 75lt tank that goes up the side. Simular to the gas conversion tank.

Ring around a few Gas fitters. This was a popular fittment on petrol 60 series when putting on gas.

Aaron,

I have one on my 61. Bought it second hand for $200 after pricing new ones for $1500. Keep a look out for second hand and you'll find one sooner or later. Sits in behind the transfer case, alongside the tailshaft. I still have the exhaust running alongside the chassis, and the rear muffler is mm's from the tank. Wouldn've run it so close with petrol!! You may have moved the exhaust for no benefit, unless you do you own fabrication for a new tank. I only had to move the handbrake line a little, make up a heat shield, modify the rear heater pipes, to make it fit. Never got to figure out the correct way to connect the pipes to create the siphon effect that occurs with these.

The rear mount bolts onto the bar that the shockies hang off. The front brackets go onto a new rail that goes all the way across between the chassis rails.

Interested in your dual tank for vege. You must be using thick second hand oil and a heater system- would that be right? I guess you've a 2H motor. I've just started using supermarket new vege oil as a diesel extender at a 25% blend. I keep a look out for when it's $1 litre and buy it up. The 12HT is running just fine, kids don't complain about the smell, I'm stretching my impact on non renewable supplies, no apparent difference in economy nor power tho early days yet, and I'm saving a bit of cash in fuel costs - no down sides. Love the looks from neighbours when I tell 'em too. :-)

Good on you for using the used vege oil - I'm not quite ready for the dual tank/heating step just yet! Remember with these setups, that there is a return fuel line going back into the main tank, so unless you want to mix the contents of both tanks, you will need to put taps on both feed and return lines.

Regards
Tim
