Hi sxc_thing,

My son has a 6255 and reckons it is a great unit. Takes nice pictures and videos that you can download to your PC. I have a 6225, with a vehicle handsfree kit installed and a 9db antenna on the bullbar. Do a bit of country travel and I haven't found a spot without coverage yet. Mind you it hasn't been far off the beaten track. They are both great little phones.
CDMA is here for a few years yet so I think CDMA is still the way to go. Most people change their phone every few years so CDMA may be dead by the next time you need a phone.

Cheer
David

Seems to be a lot of 6225 phone on ebay and I was wondering if they had some sort of problem. You have answered my questions, they seem pretty good. My 2280 uses battery power like its going out of style. I have tried for a couple of months now to get the thing to work on the laptop for net access wilth a nil result. Nokia has not answered my emails and this is aparently normal for nokia.

Phil,

I can load the modem up each time however I can't get the modem to change from com port 1 to com port 5. If I could do that I reckon I would be in with a chance.

Any chance of sending me your modem drivers? Do you have any instructions at all?

Cruisin dave, sorry for the off post messages.

Hi Angler,

I use my 6225 regularly to connect to the net, it works fine once all the right ports settings are selected. To change the port settings you need to;
Go to Control panel, then System, then hardware, then device manager. Scroll down to ports and select the nokia phone. Click on it and then click on the port settings tab and finally you can select which port you want the phone to connect to.

Once you have changed it in WindowsXP, you may need to change the port setting on the Nokia PC suite software. Simply open the nokia suite and then click on adbvanced settings. Change the port number here so they match up and you should be fine.

Hope this helps

Cheers

Captain

Captain,
No help as far as the nokia modem is concerned. What modem version do you use ? ie what one is installed? This is available via the dial up poroperties tab.

More about the 2280 phone, Like Phil I can get the phone to transfer data to the computer via port 6 no problems, I can do updates and change phone numbers etc but when trying to use it as a modem we both get zilch or something similar. The modem loads manually, and XP can't find the nokia modem automatically. I am given the choice of four modems using the supplied nokia cd and all load to port 1.
In device manager the modem tab shows a nokia modem and there is no way to change it to port or six or whatever. The thing loads to port 1 and changing ports is not an option.
OK There is a nokia on port 6 and that part works fine as both Phil and I said before, its not the transfer of data thats the problem it's the B modem that won't work.

I will persis for a while. At least unitl CDMA is defunct.

Phil, What modem version did telstra tell you to use?

To all who are having a bit of trouble getting your 2280 phone on the net from your laptop I have found what I was doing wrong.

Remove the PC suite from your computer. Load up the modem driver and use the one that does not mention 2g or 3g. The modem should load up to the correct comm port as PC suite is not loaded.
Load PC suite and it will be able to find the phone at the same port as your modem.
If you do it the other way round the PC suite takes over and stops the modem from loading to the correct port.
I tried it last night and all works now Yippee!!!!

6255 was the best thing i ever did. We have quite a few of them at work. We brought ours the same day they were released and 2 of them had to go back and be reprogrammed because they stopped accepting a charge, but Telstra shop have advised that the issue was solved quickly and all phones sold after the 2nd week of release already had the issue fixed.

I would definately recommend it.

Cheers,
Brett

Checking out Fairfax papers on the Internet this morning, in the item about Telstra a spokesman says not to worry about having to get rid of your present mobile phone, as the changeover will be gradual. Will be 2008 before we have to do anything. He said most people change their phones every 18 months anyway. We don't!

Hi just updated our phones mine 6225,hers 6255, both cdma. We live in very poor reception area. I think that both have good reception but the 6255 is by far the best. Picking up calls in the house which never happened with the previous Nokia CDMA (6385) or 3x LG CDMA's we have had before. We are in a remote area, SA ,with marginal coverage according to Telstra coverage map.

Bloody Telstra!
I spent a lot of money on phone, carkit, and antenna and now it's wasted as CDMA is on the way out. I'm REALLY angry about this.
