Hi guys

Has anyone heard of or used Techni Ice roto moulded ice boxes and/or techni ice itself? The boxes look pretty sturdy and come with a 7 year warranty. Any advice is appreciated.

Regards
Mick

Thx notso, had a look yesterday and ordered a box today. He's out of stock at the moment but will get more in next week. 100 litre ice box for $199 - that'll do me.

Stuffs been available in OZ for some years now. We use it and found it useful. Keep it in the Vans Freezer compartment and wrap it around stuff in the day compartment when travelling. 12v system not as efficient in our van.

Also keep it in home freezer for other ice like purposes.

Does not taste good even with whisky.

I purchased an 80l from their Frankston (Victoria) dealer back in March/April before my drive over to the Pilbara.
Very sturdy, good seal and elastic lid tie downs. Ment to come with 8-10 techni ice packs, but the salesmans gave me twice that.
Ice packs can be cut down to smaller sizes.
Time consuming to prepare packs prior to freezing. but well worth it.
If you load up food/booze straight from the fridge the packs will last for around 3 days. Ice is up to $7 a bag up here so they soon pay for themselves.

TB who I wheel with bought some 3-4 yrs ago at 4wd show, tried it 2 times, went to take it back, they laughed.

Apparently the dude that owns the company lives in frankston area, my neighbour ( Jims mowing) mows the dudes lawns. He came over all excited with Techni Ice one day as though it was new!

IMHO, if they are now offering 7yr warranty it would be worth a try.

I know a few people who use Techni Ice in their fridges to help conserve a few amps and it seems to work pretty well.

I imagine their Iceboxes would be pretty decent.

We have been using the techni ice sheets in conventional eskies for quite a few years.Theyeasily outlasts similar looking icepacks (Coleman etc) by staying frozen longer. In fact it is quite amazing stuff. You activate the polymer in the dry sheets once only by immersing in water and scrunching them in your hands. After a minute or two some bubbles will come out and the water enters the cells (semi permeable membrane). They then puff up like little pillows. You can either freeze them and use in place of ice or heat them in a microwave and use to keep food hot.

We use the sheets as ice blocks on a weekly basis when shopping at the markets.

Our eskies are nothing special just Willow or Coleman brand.

Don't know about the Eskies but the ice itself is an incredible invention, up there with the occy strap and the cable tie, ok, well maybe not quite up there with the occy strap, but at least as good as the cable tie.

I ordered a Waeco WIB100 Ice Box and intend to use this Techni Ice, it's on Ebay at a reasonable price in lots of 10 or 20 sheets. I've seen some pretty impressive figures on the effectiveness of these ice boxes with this stuff, so given I am away for no longer than 5 days at a time, reckon it's a more affordable way to go than a $1500 12-24 CompressorEngel or Waeco, although I'll save the pennies for one.!
