Hi
Wondering where's the bset palce to put a
UHF radio (Icon 400Pro) in the Landcruiser 100? I have read all the ads in 4x4 mags and it appears that the only two
places are on the dash or replace the roof console with a "Dept of the Interior" centre console. Suggestions welcome!
Many thanks
Tom

Hi Tom57..............I have my Icom 400pro mounted via 2 self tapping screws just to the left of my knee, and arms length just fine for adjusting the set when needed......

G'day Tom, when I had my L/C 100, I replaced the average double din Toyota stereo with a single din Alpine unit, and mounted the El;ectrophone UHF directly under it in the dash .
It was very neat and looked as though it had been factory fitted.
Hope this helps.
Cheers,
Peter

Thanks Peter.
Is your LC 100 a recent model. You say that it was average - I hope they updated the stereo unit in the new facelift models? I haven't pick-up
mine yet - this Thursday if I'm lucky - hence the enquiry re: the place to put a
UHF radio.
Cheers

had this issue also not lond ago . I stripped the concole and dash to find a place . I spotted a gap in the concole that works
well !MPG:3!
here is a pic of what it looks like . you only get to see 20 mm of the radio , the rest is hidden in the concole

I have a GME tx3400 remote head. Radio is mounted under the pass
seat and control head is mounted on centre console forward of the gear lever. Works great. And looks neat.

Hi again Tom. The factory stereo in most cruisers/patrols are fine for Jo Average, but I enjoy my music (and like hearing it cleanly above the gravel flying off the
wheels), and at these levels the standard sound is VERY average! The standard speakers are fine (quite good actually and will handle a clean 50W deck), it's just that the standard deck lacks power. Whatever they rate the deck at is grossly over exagerated. I think they are about 4-6 watts per channel in real terms.
A good 50W+50W deck will make the world of difference, without going over the top or paying a fortune.
Cheers,
Peter

Making the assumption that you do not smoke i suggest the following that I did to my 100 series.
Remove the h ashtray. Get a welder mate to make up an aluminium plate that fits neatly into the slide and weld on at about 45% upwards another plate about 40mm in height. Drill a hole in the horizontal plate and tap it and fit a screw (grub screw). When you insert the horizontal plate you screw inthe screw that locates the aluminium firmly into place. Screw the radio to the 45% plate. Drill a hole through the back of the ashtray housing for the power and aerial cables.
When you sell the vehicle undo the grub screw, replace the ashtray and no one would ever know you had a UHF in.
I have taken this on some rough tracks and never had aproblem and it is cheap.
