There is a current thread on this question on the caravaners forum - paste this link and it should get you right to the thread. All but one have got theirs from eBay, and i have just loaded 70 items into my watch list!

Hi Steve - yes, a number of people have shared what they have fitted, all but one purchased from eBay, over the two years i have been watching. No-one has complained so they must all be happy. There are a variety of ways they have fitted the monitor (i think the rear view mirror the best place), and some have fitted camera inside the van looking out through the window, others varying from the eye being fully set in, to external mounting. Most come from Hong Kong, and high postage can "load" the price. We favour buying a package, rather than camera and monitor fro different sources, as we should be sure they will work together easily. As the camera is the cheapest part of the package, getting one for the back of the tow vehicle seems a good idea, rather than us screaming at each other through the 2ways when hitching up. If we get one soon, I'll let you know the result. Motherhen

Hi I have just installed a camera on the rear of my caravan for rear view veiwing. It is only used to see if any vehicle are following. I do not use it for hitching up.
The monitor is mounted on the dashboard of my L'Cruiser. The monitor is a 4" LCD.
I am not overly impressed with the picture that I get but it is adequate for my needs.
Mine is a cable type and fitted to a 17'6" caravan and there would be 25' of cable in all.
I would not replace it with the same model

Had a look, but once again it looks like a wired system. Also for a caravan i think we really need a keyhole camera. Most i have been looking at seem to be wired. Have you decided yet? I'm just getting more confused!

Thanks Steve - sounds real cheap if it is good. I have been looking at the wireless system that 'vanaway' has (caravaners forum thread) too. It looks very similar to the one he directed me to on eBay, but i don't know how he has fitted it. What monitor is your mate using? Please continue keeping me informed. Regards, Motherhen

Good to hear new Steve - my husband just had his hand on the bid button on a very similar camera - the one "vanaway" has. What monitor did your friend get? Regards, Motherhen

Bidding done. Ours are from Hong Kong, so we'll wait and hope all OK; the camera/ receiver seems stronger than the one your friend bought. Monitor from another Hong Kong seller; husband chose rectangular rather than reat view mirror one. I'll let you know how it works when we get it and fit it. Regards, Motherhen.

We have a rear view camera that works fairly well. Screen is great, camera is just acceptable. Next is a camera on the van, thanks for the views on the wireless unit. I thought they may have difficulty getting a signal over the top of the van and into the steel cabin of the car.
Screen was about $115.00 on ebay and wired camera $40.00 from memory. I used surveillance cable that has a 75ohm cable and a few single wires in a quarter inch plastic sheath.

Mine is at
