Hi All
Heading off the day after Xmas to the
Yorke Pen down around the foot until the Saturday of New Years Eve.
Where are the 4wd tracks and can you get onto
the beach (any maps that show them all)
Will be
bush camping in one spot and doing day trips.
Regards
Trevor

I have this one on CD and it provides good info...
Hema
Cape York
With respect to tracks: No idea if it "shows them all" but its probably a good start.
Cheers

G'day Trev,
I happen to be the Pesident of the
Yorke Peninsula 4WD Club.....(but that don't make me an expert on the tracks etc...hehehe)
You can drive along a lot of the beaches on the peninsula.....we were down there weekend before last just south of Pt Victoria. I haven't got a map that shows you where yo can or can't go. Our club was involved with an effort some years ago to formalise the tracks' situation on the YP and we recently had our Club Secretary (EO Member "Seashells" aka, Mauri Gill of Minlaton) attend a meeting to see if there is anything we could/should be doing to assist in this matter. However, the whole thing is like trying to juggle jelly!!!! Local Govt Councils, Aboriginal spokespeople, Land Management bods, Environmental Protection dudes....etc etc. The whole thing is a friggin joke!!!! But we try to remain positive that eventually we will get some gazetted tracks along the beaches....Mauri reckons they ARE making headway.
If you're coming through Kadina at all, let me know and I'll see what's going on.
Cheers mate
Roachie

Best area on the penninsula is Formby bay Access to
the beach can be had from Daly heads and you can drive south to where it is terminated by cliffs. Access to these cliffs can be had by road where (walking) south again takes you to another shore break beach. The Southern end of the formby bay beach is (was) one of the least visited beaches (especially compared to
browns beach) and had good gutters with good surf fishing. Other good spots with more sheltered bays/beaches are further south such as
Gleesons landing and
gym beach

Hi Trevor,
I had the good fortune to spend a week fishing down the bottom end about a month ago. Sorry I can't help with maps but when you posted your question I had a look at Google Earth out of curiosity.

No substitute for good contacts like Roachie and Davo but I was surprised at the detail you can see at the bottom of
Yorke Peninsula.

Hi Trevor
Dave here, I'm a local at Corny Point. At Formby Bay &
Gym beach, there is absolutely
no access for 4WD or anything else but the 2 legged kind. It has been like that for several years now. There are a couple of spots along the "foot" (western side of peninsula) heading south from Corny Point. Head to
Swincers Rocks, just poke your nose in & around and I think you can still find a way onto beach if you try. The next spot South from there (back onto Marion Bay Rd) is at
Gleesons Landing.
There you will find an old hand- waterpump about 100m back from beach, turn right onto the track there and follow down for a few Kms, and you will come to an opening in the dunes which will bring you out in the middle of
Gleesons landing beach. Great fishing etc. Heading south again towards Innes NP you can access Daly Heads from Gleesons via a road to the left of the
old hand pump. Turn right at the end of this and it will bring you onto the Daly Headland, very scenic. If you follow this track around it will bring you to the northern end of Formby Bay. There are stairs to access Dusthole beach (formby bay). Magnificent!
From there, heading towards Innes, there are many beautiful beaches along the way but unfortunately no 4WD access.
Gym beach is very nice for picnic etc. This road used to connect through to the northern end of the
park but now national Parks have cut off through- access so you would have to go back onto Marion bay rd,& through Marion Bay to get to the
park. The only
4WD beach access in the
park is through Fishermans village onto
Pondalowie Bay. There is a widely distributed "mudmap" at all local shops put out by tourism that will show most of this. It is A4 sheet of "Bottom End" I could scan it for you if you need it.
Enjoy your trip to the only leg that Australia has to stand on! Sorry for long thread.

Has things changed? There was in 02 access to
the beach at daly heads although I was there in a 2by. i often fished the southern end of the dusthole beach with a 2by We would
park at the car
park and walk along the clifftop and down onto
the beach and along it for about 400m or so where the gutters started. Long walk but the fishing was good and we never shared
the beach. And you have jogged my memory (about 10 years ago)
gleesons landing is to the Nth of Daley heads I seem to recall good rock fishing by walking around the rocks between Gleesons and that beach/bay to the North of Daley heads. I tried long and hard to access the
park using old maps from
Gym beach but access is
well and truly cut off. I always wondered if there was access to the Southern end of the dusthole beach via that farmhouse that sits behind the dunes

Yes Davoe, things have changed. They blocked off the access to dusthole beach must've been just after you were here then. The house behind the dunes has been subdivided and now has another 10-15 homes/80acre blocks around it. And yes, before that there was access up the
sand dunes, but now both ends of dusthole are not accessible to 4WD.

sheeesh you cant turn your back on anything can ya? the southern end used to be a good quite spot. We humped a tent and supplys all the way down
the beach one long weekend and had a terriffic time camped behind the first dunes with not another person in site and good fishing. Was my favourite spot behind the upper EP as it was the only place I knew on the
Yorke to avoid the crowds
