Stan, if your at all technically minded compare the relevant technical information on the various manufacturers web sites, see if the systems are RECOMENDED by the relevant manufacturer as suitable for the intended purpose, using the batteries you have now and would like to use in the future..

Then when you have made an informed decision ask someone who has the system installed that you woul like if it works for them, with the battery system you will be using....

I started with a Solenoid, changed to Pirahna DB150E anw use Rotronics :-)

I've been using one for years without incurring any battery charging problems. How they work is where you have a duel battery system, the one that is the designated start battery must have at least 75% charge capacity before the Rotronics unit will transfer any charge from the alternator to the second battery. If you do get one make sure it is rated for the alternator fitted in your vehicle. Cheers

I had one. It lasted two years without trouble and then shook to pieces on the Gary Junction Road this year. I threw it in the bin

I replaced it with a common solenoid

Shook to pieces on the GJR ? That road is as "smooth as a baby's bottom" according to one 4wd mag article. Why, they even had to go on a bit of the old (Lens) track so that they could put the vehicles into 4wd!
What a load of bull! If that's a baby's bottom then I pity the poor kid !!! I was lucky, the only thing that shook to pieces was me :))))))

I use the Rotronics, had it fitted in the old Lux 4 years ago, have had no problems.

Will be fitting it into the new Lux this weekend :-)

I recommend you ring Rotronics and describe the situation and intended use.

I have one that is doing the job in my car but only just. It occasionally needs a little help from a 240 battery charger. I rang Rotronics and the guy was very helpful. He told me that the unit I have is not the best for what I am asking it to do. (it was in the car when I bought it). He said it will probably die bacause it is working too hard and that when it does I should replace it with a different model.

He did not try to sell the upgrade immediately and said my unit would give a bit of warning on the way out. Stating that the aux battery would fail first. At this stage I am not sure what I will do when it fails but I will probably give Rotronics a call at least.
