Heres the deal:
95 2.8D Hilux
Headlights on and working fine
-> when I push the light control lever forward - all lights turn off - no high beams - no
driving lights!!! - Really scary feeling at night - If I wait for about 5 seconds - all lights turn on - (high beams and
driving lights)
-> If I pull the light control lever back towards me - all lights (high beams and
driving lights) turn on straight away!!
I'm thinking it can't be a relay problem - coz the lights turn on straight away when I pull the lever back towards me - so must be the light control lever on its way out...
Any ideas? - Easy fixes??

no - but I don't see a need - as the lights eventually come on - if it was a fuse - they wouldn't come on at all.
I might have a play tonight though - as it may be a loose fuse or similar.

Might have 2 relays ... 1 for high beam and 1 for flashing?? ... the lights I mean LOL.
If so the high beam relay may be on the way out.
Cheers

Dirt, dust or worn.
Dismantle covers off column to show lever and switch mechanism. Clean up with appropriate cleaner or replace mechanism $$$.
Are the Dr Lt on a seperate switch or fully active together with headlight high beam?
Can you put hed lt on HB and then switch Dr Lt, any effect?
good luck and let us know if ya get a result

The
driving lights activate together with high beam - I can turn them off manually though with a switch - however - the high beams still respond the - even when
driving lights are turned off.
I will be pulling covers off shortly to investigate! - I think your analysis is of dirt/dust/worn will be correct though!

I have had a similar problem with my GQ inasmuch that the one headlight goes dead when going to high beam. After lots of comments and advice here on EO etc etc I traced the fault back to the Highh/Low beam/Indicator stalk. On the Nissan it is a sealed unit. Had to pay $55 for one at the wreckers in
Melbourne. Now everything is working again. Money fixed the problem lol
