I wish to get power for my UHF directly from the battery.

But should I connect it to the main (cranking) battery or my second (hybrid) battery?

I have heard pro’s and con’s for both.

If connected to main battery, UHF will still work in the morning when the fridge has sucked all the power from the second battery.

If connected to second battery I can leave UHF on all the time and never worry about starting the next morning.

How have most of you guys got your’s setup?

Thanks.

I have a voltage cut out on 2nd battery which runs the fridge.

UHF off the 2nd battery.

Try and run as much as a I can off the 2nd battery to give it something to do when not running the fridge between trips.

I don't have a front mounted electric winch either.

But I run all of my accessories off a block of fuses which has 1st and 2nd battery connected, so if I have too I can swap it around to the first battery just by changing a terminal.

Personally I have mine connected to the accessory feed. Don't need it on when I'm not there (don't want it on when sleeping!) and leaving the key on accessory for a few hours won't harm the crank battery.
Even if the start battery goes flat I can still start from the auxillary (Redarc with overide).
BTW, If the fridge sucks your auxillary battery flat overnight you need a bigger battery :-(

Aux battery for all of the above. UHF shouldnt flatten anything, they don't draw much unless you talk for days at a time or you have a really crook battery. I knew a bloke who used to carry a gel cell just in case.

firstly, ive been going around to the battery shops lately to get some background info on dual battery systems, and the one thing that they all agree on seems to be that you should run same type batterys in a dual battery set up. not a starter and a deep cycle.

secondly, and probably more to your question, do you run your stereo off the second battery? if so, cut into the constant power wire for the stereo! then you arent running heaps of excess wire, that you dont need!
