Hi every one,
hoping that some of you might be able to help with my problem, I have just put a 3" mandrel bent exhaust on my 91 80 series turbo(my god does it make a difference, should have done it 3 yrs ago) but have a loud whistle when putting petal to metal. The guys at Beaudesert exhaust were great and pulled the front pipe off and fired up the engine and revved the engine and there it was coming straight out from the manifold. The noise was there prior

Any body out there got any suggestions!

Thanks
Steve

Sounds like your typical "turbo whistle".... (some are more noticeable than others)..
Obviously the bigger exhaust has allowed the turbo to spin up more freely, and now ya got yerself a whistle:-))

Take the muffler off.....

(then ya won't hear the whistle;-))

Steve,

I recently developed a loud turbo whistle after refitting my intercooler pipes. Upon investigation via some turbo specialists, it was explained to me that my pipes were acting like organ pipes. Different lengths and diameters will cause different noise emissions, maybe this is something similar to what is happening in your case but only in the exhaust ???

Regards Trevor.

I've just read my question asked of you all and I stuffed up when I said that the noise was there prior sorry it wasn't there prior to the new exhaust fitted but the whistle doesn't sound lilke the turbo spinning up.
I think I will turn the radio up a little louder!!!!
thanks
Steve
