Hi Guy's and gal's . I have just done the last engine fit trial and I have aissue with the A/C. Now before I make the last chassis mod. I was wondering if anyone here knew if a A/C cmpressor , can be rotated on the rear housing. My hose fittings now sit on the side of the compressor and after having a close look , I notices that the actual compressor is made up of 3 housings , now if I could unbolt the fromt 6 bolts and rotate the rear housing , so the hoses are in another possition, it would save some nasty chassis mods which would mean cutting and welding near the engine mount.

dunno mate, depends on whether the pump has a swash plate or vane offset keyed to the rear housing, best way is to pop it apart (or see an a/c expert) .
if it hasnt and the rear plate is just a bearing carrier, and the mount bolts are equally spaced then yeah spin it round, but as the inlet and exit ports are mounted on it i dont like your chances.
What about some half moon shaped brackets to mount the whole pump rotated around ?

Because you get your A/C gased by todays mechanic's , who are really removers and fitters lol and would have a clue how things actually work. I asked the question here first , incase there was some one who understood the inner workings of a A/C compressor. Why run around when you can let your fingers do the walking lol .

Rock Crawler
G/Day
If it is a early style sanden, other than the 2 locating dowells in the head assembly the head could be rotated and should not be to much of a problem. Later models would need to have head removed to check, or look under the manufactuers web site to check head diagrams. Job would have to be done by licenced ac person.
Sanden swash plate have inner and outer chamber`s so it should turn
Cheers
Charlie

Eric, we have dealings with an onsite air con specialist at work. He's often coming in and getting aluminium fittings welded up to suit some odd air con job he has on the go.
He tends to get the odd work the workshops can't handle so he may be a useful guy to contact.
His name is Glen and his business name is GP Auto Air and he is in Berberis Cres Frankston. His mobile number is 0418 364138. I don't know how far he travels but it may be worth a try.
Tell him Andrew from D&F Racing Products in Carrum Downs said to give him a call and I expect he'll insult me the next time he needs something welded. lol.
Regards Andrew.
