Just been to the local K-mart and seen 600w sine wave inverter for $150 and 300w for $80. Looking around the specialist suppliers they're normally 6 x that price. What's the catch? or am I missing something?

Are you sure it's pure not modified sine wave?

to be honest mate, i'm not sure. I saw them and got a bit excited because I thought they were normally a lot dearer. I've since had a look at Collyn Rivers' book and seen that there are
inverters and
inverters. Probably a good job I didn't give the wallet an airing;-) I'll check which type next time I'm in there.

I believe the laws on
inverters are changing soon so beware, they could be selling off stock that will not comply in the future.
The changes in regulations are safety issues, several people have had electrical shocks from
inverters because the input and output are not isolated in the cheapee models .

Look for thew words PURE SINE WAVE inverter, the cheapies are modified sine wave
inverters, both will run lots of things but the pure ones better for more sensitive equipment, like some laptops and some self aware men.

My sugestion is to get 1 with a peak (startup) load higher than you need.
Mine is 300w but the peak is 1000w. My last 2 (replaced) both burnt out. So I changed brands.

I dont think it nessasary to say xxxxx
shop (brand) was no good. It was replaced then the new 1 burnt out so I got my $ back & got another brand from a diferent
Shop. Thats what a 12 month waranty is all about.

But for those thinking of buying one, it is reassuring to know that the brand they are thinking of buying is not going to give them any grief?
