Robsoff,
I have a Navman Pin and found it a great help on trip to Broome.

Nothing worse than trying to find a caravan park in a strange town (in the dark!).

Can't help re overseas units, though they would need the Australian maps to be loaded for it to work here I would think.

Robsoff it depends if you can get a US one with an Australian basemap or Australian maps in memory another way like on an SD card or on a PDA of some sort, including a Navman possibly. The options are almost endless. It depends how much you want to spend and whether you want to look to the screen for all your info or connect to a laptop screen.

There are a couple of options too on the Trader section here for sale.

The Navman is upgradeable with new maps by SD card...( not sure how often they bring new maps out...once a year I'd guess)...

Cant comment on the Garmin models...but the Navman sell here like hot cakes...

Rob,
best I have found is NavNet navigation and Entertainment system. It is a new system on Ozy market. You will get GPS ( Street to Street) and Topo (Ozyexplorer moving maps) as well, plus CD,DVD,Video, MP3, MP4, Windows XP, reverse camera and more , all in one compact unit with touch screen. It is made for 4x4 people.
Have a look on www. dmck.org/git
