Hi Folks,
Was recently standing on
the beach at
Moreton Island doing a spot of fishing at the top of the tide.(Someone has to do the hard jobs)
Out of the corner of my eye I spot a nice 100 series cruiser towing an off road caravan coming down
the beach. He was working pretty hard as he was in soft sand with deep wheel ruts cut into it.
Anyway he goes past us and then I see a vehicle coming towards him. In response to this the guy towing the van tries to move his car out of one set of wheel ruts and over to another set to give the oncoming car more room.
The only problem was that the 100 series moved over but his van tracked for a moment in the old wheel ruts and when it did move over to his new line it did so in such a manner as to fully jacknife him on
the beach.
He was dead lucky and kept everyhting on the ground and luckily no-one was hurt.
I had never seen anything like that before on
the beach and just wanted to share the experience with everyone.
Have a good one.

Scary stuff,
I have been a passenger in a car towing a tandem axle trailer on the freeway and we seriously underestimated the weight of the load in the trailer. We had just got on the freeway and were travelling at 90kp/h and the trailer was swaying quite badly.
I suggested we get off the freeway and take the long way home but at a slower speed.
Well within 10 seconds of that comment we had done a 540 spin with trailer still attached somehow missed a light pole and a truck that was travelling next to us. Once we had come to a stop I looked out my window (Passenger) to see the trailer still upright sitting next to it and still attached to the tow bar!!.
The driver had that what the f*** just happened look on his face, and as I recall I started laughing.
It was a very quiet and slow trip home.

Much extra weight on the bar = much easier/safer to tow

Brian,
Its not hard to do, had a similar experience towing my Trakmaster in serious
bulldust out the back of Diggers Rest in Norrtern WA. Deep ruts and about 50kph
uphill and the 80 hit a big bump and bounced out of the ruts, looked in the mirrors
and the van was travelling at about 30 degrees to the Cruiser. eventually bounced itself off the track and ended up travelling a fair distance in the scrub as I had no intention of stopping in that stuff.Certainly gets your attention big time.
